In testing this I came across garbage false positives for non-existent verses:
I'm not seeing the problem here. Those verses exist as indicated in The New American Bible.
If The New American Bible had left those verses out entirely, then they would not show up, but as is, they are displayed in the Passage List.
You see no problem with a verse Mt 17:21 which does not occur in the NAB showing a Bible text of ")" - possibly from the parallel pericopes line? And here I was thinking "Jesus wept" was the shortest verse.
Passage List appears to be faithfully recreating the content (note that your screenshot is showing NRSV, not NAB):
