what is a "print" library in Logos lingo?

I've known for a while that I can add print books, but I have never known what that actually means. I thought it had meant that if I personally own a paper copy of something, that I can somehow add it to my personal Logos library, but I'm not entirely sure how to, or if that is even correct. However, I now see on this page in my Library I am told I can either buy books or just add them for free. Is the resource the same if I "buy" or "add" it? And is this connected to the first sentence above?

I am told that if I add things the books will go to my "Print" library. How is this different from my normal Logos library?

Some of these resources are just prompting me to add them, and others have a store symbol. Is there a logic between why one is locked and the other isn't?

When I clicked to learn more, I was presented with a QR code which actually made everything more confusing and I am not sure what to do with this code.

I would appreciate any clarity anyone is able to provide.

To my understanding, this simply means Logos will include your print library in searches, thus providing you with the location (i.e., pagination) in whatever results are returned for your search.

Hi Kristin.

In short, books you add to your Print Library are not added to your Logos Library in the same way as books that you buy from Logos.com (or other Logos-related catalogues). In other words, you can't read books in your Print Library in Logos.

But you CAN search them!

Thank you for the link. I am noticing that if I search for some of my books to add as a print version, that the titles appear as something I can add, but these are books I know Logos does not have for sale in the store. Are print books I add still searchable with page numbers, even if they are not in the Logos store?

Hi @Aaron Hamilton, I think I was mistaken. The situation is that a few months ago I had looked for a specific book in the store, and it was clear that Logos didn't sell it.

Now I looked for it in the "print" section and it was there, so I added it. I then clicked on the hyperlinked title and was met with a banner saying it isn't available, hence my post.

However, I just went to the store again (given your comment), and I see that the book which was not available a few months ago is now "gathering interest" and I can pre-order it. Here is the banner I got.

With this theory, I just searched for another book in the print section, which I also know Logos does not have, and I know is not gathering interest, and that book is not in the print section. So I assume that must be the situation, I guess. I am still surprised by the banner though, as suggesting me to pre-order it would have made more sense.

Interesting. I'm unaware of at what point specifically a book is made available to add to print library, but apparently it is sometime in the prepub process. "Gathering interest" is earlier than I would have expected.

Ya, as someone who is barely familiar with the print thing at all, this was for sure disorienting, but I appreciate that they do that.

I expect it to be a case of a resource that was previously sold and is therefore in the Logos library but is no longer sold. It may have been pulled for any number of reasons.

I've come across this in the past and your assumption was mine as well.

Another strange thing is that I use Logos (stable) and Verbum (beta) side by side, and my print library count in Verbum is off by five books, four of which are still available in Logos. If I search the print library in Verbum, I can see the books and I have the option to add them (though I'm afraid of doing so, in case the count in my stable version gets messed up); I don't understand why they're not showing up in my Verbum library. The fifth book is no longer available in the Logos store, but it probably was at the time I added it to my print library in the Logos app.

And another thing you may come across is that geographic restrictions, in addition to preventing you from purchasing a book, may also prevent you from adding that book to your print library. It is teeth-gritting but Logos says it's a publisher requirement.

For some of us who've been with Logos for decades, "search Library" means "search my Logos library" - they wanted a term that implied some of the books on your physical shelf were also included. The problem with adding terminology for new features is that some terms already have set meanings.
