A "build your own" Portfolio edition (idea)

I have purchased the Platinum edition and love it, but the jump to Portfolio is just too much ($2,210 more) , but having some "in between" choices would be great......

I esp thought of having a "build your own" package up to a certain $ amount (say $1500) for $999.00 (or less Big Smile ) Logos would do it right......

As of right now I don't think I will spend much more because of the huge jump, but I would with some other choices. There are some resources in the Portfolio that would be cool to have at that kind of value......

A build your own would be soooooooo awesome! Anybody else interested? Anybody from Logos want to comment on the feasibility of the idea.....

That's a cool idea. I would probably build a systematic theology or dogmafolio.

In my opinion Portfolio is a win-lose situation. Yes there are some cool resources (e.g. JPS, ISBE, Hermeunutics collection, and others), but there's a bunch of other resources that you will never even get to read in your life-time. Having said that, it's better to have your own "customize your Platinum" deal for a few bucks more and get resources that you really want and not pay so much for other resources that you won't really use. Anyway, until Logos decides to do that for us, I'll just keep buying here and there to customize my own Platinum package. IMO I have better content that I really use than I would have if I had upgraded to Portfolio. Plus, having access to a lot of bilingual resources makes my package even better for my needs. In the end, thanks to God for Logos Bible Software. I really try to use it as much as I can because every time I do so I get to learn something new every day to share it with others. That's a great idea. There are several resources I just don't care about in the Portfolio and conversely there are several things I do care about, as well. The licensing issues are bound to be as complicated as a barn full of Cisco switches! I imagine that is the ultimate kicker with a build your own Portfolio.

This may not be true for everyone, but most people that own Platinum, most likely have a good idea of what areas they would like to study.

The Platinum is a good basic library, once you have it, you may want to zero in on areas that appeal to you!

The Portfolio is a good buy, but it is not as good of buy as the Platinum is, and for many people the cost for what you get is to high, compared to spending that same amount of money on areas that really appeal to you! It is also of such a nature that even after spending that extra money you still only have a basic library, only it is bigger than the Platinum and you still have to spend money on areas that are interesting to you!

I am working on a Doctors Degree, and I will spend the money on the areas that I feel will be most helpful to my area of study. If we could design our own advance packages above Platinum it would be very helpful!

In my opinion Portfolio is a win-lose situation.

While many of us share high regard for common resources like BDAG/HALOT there are resources some hold little value for because it just doesn't fit their study needs and interests.

When Portfolio was announced Logos readily admitted it would be more than some users would use. I have interest in many areas. I have the time and freedom to dive in wherever because I am not preoccupied with a pulpit ministry or degree course of study. I like to read and Portfolio fills that need.

I won't bore you with the long list of titles in Portfolio that I find exciting. Suffice it to say, as I added up the included titles that I had every intention of buying, I quickly surpassed the Portfolio price. I saved a bunch of money just on the titles I was 100% sure of buying. When I looked at those extra titles I found of interest but may not actually buy, it was icing on the cake. It was, for me, a Win-Win! [:D]

My problem is that I now own enough of the key Portfolio titles on top of my Platinum base that there's really no point in buying Portfolio now; I know I'm not the only one in this situation. Some of the previously mentioned ideas would be beneficial!

Well considering that I don't believe Logos thought they would sell as many Portfolios as they probably have. I agree the price is too much for what I can do at present, plus more resources than I could effectively use at the moment. For those who it works for, I think that its a great thing.

For the rest of us, I would just a soon create my own collection. If I come up with 5 titles at a time I can call Jared Bryant in sales and he usually works out a great deal, but I need 5 books at a time. So I can control what I am getting and my costs. For me that's a WIN-WIN [:D].

So Logos provides a variety of ways to end up with a WIN-WIN, so who can complain...not me.[:D].

I thought about Porfolio but am in the same situation; I already own many of the titles in the package. When I add up the price of the ones I may want to purchase the cost is far less than the $2000+ than it would cost me to upgrade. However, I will admit that some of my reading/study habits are changing and I find that I am interested in or find the need for resources that a couple of years ago would not have interested me.

A very good idea.

I would never upgrade to Portfolio because it doesn't contain enough of the resources I want to justify the two thousand dollars. That is a lot of money to me, and I had much rather spend that two thousand on resources I do want to add to my library - things like Luther's Works, the ICC, and various other commentaries and dictionaries. Much of what is included in the jump from Plantinum to Portfolio is of little value to me.
