Moved from one HD to another....help

Hello All...My hard drive crashed yesterday so I had to pull out a new one. I just got Logos4 installed again and completely indexed. I am a little frustrated that I don't see my notes, layouts or prioritized resources. Any advice? I thought this all backed up to the cloud.

hummm...not sure why it isn't showing. I can think of two things.

1) make sure you are logged in with the same username you used on your other install. Most likely you are since you are seeing the correct resources in your library.

2)I just noticed that you are on Logos 4 Mac...which means I can only offer you this first suggestion :-)

I would check the log and see if it is still syncing. Your notes and such may not be downloaded yet.

In order for the cloud to work, Internet must be enabled. But unless you intentionally disabled the feature, I wouldn't expect that to be the issue, since I believe it is enabled by default.

I had a drive crash earlier this year and almost lost everything. Might I suggest the use of "SuperDuper!" I use this regularly to mirror my hard drive with an external drive. If I have a hard drive crash, I can either install the external drive by swapping with the broken one, or connect via Firewire and keep working until the original hard drive is replaced. SuperDuper! has a Smart Update mirroring feature that only backs up contents that has actually changed, making backups much quicker. I also use another external drive that backs up all of my Documents (pictures, music, etc...)

Mac OS X includes Time Machine - needs an external disk drive - initial full backup, then incremental backups hourly of changed items. Mac OS X installer can copy stuff from Time Machine backup (easy to replace crashed hard drive). Also restoring item(s) from backup is easy drag and drop.

Additionally, Mac OS X Disk Utility can be used to copy partitions.

[I] External hard drive can be partitioned - one for Time Machine (automatic) - other(s) for Disk Utility copies (manual & bootable).

I do need to get better about backing up. I haven't backed up in like three weeks and in that time I moved my Logos from Win7 va Parallels to the Mac side. I restored my system to a new harddrive so really the only thing I lost was the Logos.

I still am not getting the notes and such which is very frustrating. If it does not really backup to the cloud I am going to have to reconsider my whole way of using Logos. It will always be my Bible Study Software of choice but the way I use it might have to change. If all of my notes are gone I will be out so much of my semester's work.

Your data is indeed backed up to our servers. At present, it appears that Logos 4 is running into an unexpected error when trying to download one of your documents, and this is preventing the rest of them from being downloaded. I'll look into this further.

Thank you for looking into it. I do apologize if I sounded accusatory. I should have taken a break before making that post. I have had nothing but amazing expereiences with Logos and should have expected nothing different with this my first real problem.

I've tracked down the issue. At some point during the summer, a change was made to the way that we handle references to Augustine that (incorrectly) invalidated certain references—one of which was included in one of your documents. Presently, if we encounter an error when trying to load references when trying to download sync items, we stop downloading further items.

I'm going to try to get out a service release today that will make this a valid reference again so that you can sync your data. We'll also look into making sync more robust so that this sort of thing doesn't happen again.

In the meantime, I would advise that you avoid heavy use of the software as certain actions may clobber some of your sync data. For example, highlighting a passage (using the highlighting tool, as opposed to visual filters) in a book would eliminate other highlights in that book that may be stored on the server.
