Printing "Garbage" from Logos 4

I selected a section from Gesenius' Hebrew Grammar to print (3 pages). The result "garbage."
Then I decided to export it to an RTF file and print from the saved file, and it printed fine.
I am using Windows 7 and my printer is HP LaserJet P1006.
My Logos 4 version is 4.1 SR-4 (4.10.4.6514).
It would be nice to be able to print directly without the result being garbled.
Print feature needs more work, or did I miss something?

Yikes! I hope you were able to cancel the printing.

I only looked at this in preview - I didn't actually press the print button!

In my case, it looked fine in the preview window, but the output was garbled.

I had the same problem with the same printer. After trying to upgrade the drivers, I could not print at all. In fact my computer would not even recognize my printer any longer. I went out and purchased a new printer (HP 309 g). Now everything works fine, but it was an expense I could had avoided if I had been satisfied with copy and paste into Word.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Randy

I tried to print directly with the hp psc 1210 and it worked fine.
It was my secondary printer (inkjet).
It would appear that be some sort of incompatibility problem with laser printers or just some some printers.
Hope they will fix the bug.

To get the attention of Logos you should prefix the thread title with Bug: - you can't edit it now, but i'll create a bug report on the wiki.

I notice that HP have a full driver for the LaserJet P1006. Are you 32-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit? Did you load the driver from the HP CD-ROM?

The driver from the CD-ROM is for Vista.
I downloaded the 32-bit Windows driver from HP.

Graham, I created a bug report in PC Beta for this issue.

I tried printing from another resource: this time from " Biblical Hebrew Reference Grammar."
The results were similar: "garbled" in HP 1006 but fine in HP PSC 1210.

I did a few more tests:
First, I downloaded the driver again from the HP website and did an upgrade/repair on the HP 1006. Same results.
Uninstalled drivers and reinstalled afresh the downloaded drivers. Same results.
Discovered that the garbled print-out was only with text (not just Hebrew text, tried printing from NET Bible). In fact, the printout from BHS was fine except for the bibliographical note at the bottom of the page. Tried printing from Infographics "The Ten Plagues of Egypt" - perfect print-out!

Are you using the PCL6 driver or a postscript driver?

This has been reported to development. Thanks.

Hmmm, how do I find out whether I am using the PCL6 driver or a postscript driver?
In the HP LaserJet P1006 Properties, Advanced tab, it says that the driver is HP LaserJet P1006.
My OS is Windows 7 32-bit.
Below is the file details I downloaded from the HP website and installed in my PC:

Sometimes the model or driver info will include something similar to "PCL 6" or "PS 3" after the printer name. When you choose a printer from within the print dialog in a program, does it list just the one LJ P1006?

I have 2 printers attached to my PC: LJ P1006 (default) and PSC 1210 (3-in-1).
I do not see any references to PCL 6 or PS 3 in either.
The print dialog will list the following options: besides P1006 and PSC 1200 series, it also list Send To OneNote 2007, Microsoft XPS Document Writer, and Fax. No references to PCL 6 nor PS 3.
Not sure if that's helpful.

If you elect to Print a Test Page from Printer Properties - this would mention something about PCL or PS.

The relevant info from the printed test page are:
port name: USB001
data format: RAW
driver name: HP1006K.DLL
driver version: 7.01
default datatype: RAW
a bunch of additional files that looked similar to the one example below:
c:windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\w32x86\3\HP1006CLP.dll (1.0.0.1)
I didn't see anything that looked like PCL or PS
Nothing in the dialog box either.

Difficult to tell! Look at the manual for a mode setting you can make or view in the printer itself.

Checked the manual and found no references to PCL6 or PS emulation.
Did a bit of research on the net, and came across a comment someone made to the effect that the P1006 printer is not a PCL printer. He did say that he called HP support and was told that P1006 would accept PCL6. But he insists it does not.

If you're printing a page that includes English and Hebrew text, does it make a difference if you choose a different default Hebrew font in Tools > Program Settings?
0 -
No, it made no difference. I tried the Ezra SIL and Ezra SIL SR. The default was SBL Hebrew.
I tried printing from other resources as well -- including those which had only English text; I get the same garbled results.
On a different question: I found that I cannot print from HALOT; only the export option was available. Is that normal?
0 -
I wonder if it might be the FONT you are using.
I had some Bible commentary notes, which included Greek. When I tried to print, part of the handout was normal, but the other pieces were all goobered up. When I changed the font style, it all came out fine.

I am able to print from the HALOT and could not find a section in it that did not support printing as well as exporting.
Edit: I was testing in a Beta build. I will check it in 4.1 SR-4. Update: I cannot reproduce the problem in 4.1 SR-4, either. There could be a hardware or driver issue with your printer.

That's strange. I find the message "This panel supports export only"
I got that message about 3 times in a row with the ESV. It worked when I switched off its Interlinear panel, but it now works with that panel visible!

I closed the HALOT panel and opened it again, and now it works. Wonders never cease. [:)]

Update:
I went to the HP website and did all their recommended tests. I also downloaded their diagnostic utility and verified that there is nothing wrong with the printer, driver, connectivity, etc.
But I also discovered that the HP Laserjet P1006 is a "quirky little monster" that would not work at times unless you "tweak" it a bit. Then it would work eventually.
I printed from Logos on a different HP printer -- the HP Laserjet 1300n -- and found no problems at all, so there is nothing wrong with my Logos 4 installation and settings.
According to the HP website, they say that the problem lies with the software program (don't they all say that!) and recommends me to contact the vendor for solutions.
May I suggest that Logos find a P1006 and do some tests? Or, at least, contact HP and see if you could figure out the problem and make a fix.

Ha! After posting the previous message, I decided the fiddle with the program settings a bit, and found that when I set the default font to Arial Unicode MS, I had a perfect printout!

Yes, I am really glad that that's sorted. A great relief it is. And big thanks to all who helped. Especially Dan: it was upon re-reading his post, that I decided to fiddle with the English language fonts.

Welcome Ashija
You have replied to a problem that occurred over 6 years ago on an old version of Logos. If you have any issues then I trust you will create a thread in the appropriate forum e.g. the Logos 7 Forum if running Logos 7, the Logos 6 Forum if running Logos 6, etc. You can post non-software issues and questions in the General forum.
