Vine's is linking to OT instead of NT word

Hi there.  I looked for info on this elsewhere and didn't see anything quite like this ...  I have Logos 4.1 SR-4.

Vine's Dictionary of Expository Words  ... VCEDONTW ... is a prioritized resource.

I'm comparing Isaiah 45:23-24 with Philippians 2:10-11.  I right clicked on "Lord" in the Philippians passage and selected Vine's ... it took me to the OT section of the resource instead of the NT section.  The little search bar in my open book has this "!popdir!" displayed.  This occurs in both NIV and NAS translations.

For the word "reproach", it did the same thing (it put the word "reproach" in the search bar).  Same thing for "sacrifice".

However, for the word "encouragement", it went to the NT.

So it is inconsistent.  ??

    Hi Dianne

I can reproduce this and think I see what is happening.

I am assuming you are doing the lookup by clicking on "Selection" in the right-hand side of the context menu and then clicking on Vines in the left-hand side.

The lookup is finding a match for the first occurence of that word (as a heading) in the Dictionary. Lord, reproach & sacrifice occur as headings in the Old Testament section but encouragement does not.

To get to the appropriate section you can select "Lemma" instead of "Selection" in the right-hand side of the menu assuming the translation you are using supports this (include a reverse interlinear) which both the ones you referenced above do.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Graham

    That's perfect! [:D]

I have so much to learn.  I haven't paid much attention to that other column.  Don't know a lot of what all that is!  But after looking at them more and clicking around - I'm in a new world!

    THANK YOU!
