How can I create a link to a desktop resources for use outside of Logos (e.g. OneNote)

Hi, I've seen the discussion on how links have changed from L4 to ref.ly, although I didn't follow all of it.

But basically using Logos v43, how can I create a link to a place in a resource, for use in e.g. OneNote?

The old copy url is no longer there. I can share on FL, FB, X or email. If I select email, and then copy the link (which is unnecessarily long-winded, when we could have just a copy url option too), it is a link to biblia.com. This doesn't open in the desktop app.

Is there any way to force biblia.com links to open in the desktop app? Or is there a different way to create links that will do that?

Though it display Biblia at the surface, when I click it, it will open the Logos App.

No, I'm not looking to copy a link to a Bible reference, even if it is from when I am viewing a commentary on that reference. Copying the url and then clicking it only takes me to a Bible passage (a ref.ly link to biblia.com webpage), not the commentary that I was viewing.

Instead, I'm looking to get a link to the text (or section or page) in that particular commentary. If I highlight 'Reference' at the top left after right-clicking, I get the option to select a url to a Bible link. But if I highlight 'Selection', I don't get the option of choosing a url, just sharing on social media or by email the link to the passage on biblia.com (which is not a ref.ly link but a biblia.com link behind the displayed link name).

I'm doing research and I need lots of links in OneNote to non-Bible resources. I know I can make notes in Logos Notes, but I need my notes organised with the other research I'm doing. The email option gives me a link, in a roundabout way, but to biblia.com. (Although sometimes instead of giving a link to the resource, the email gives me a link to the Bible passage, even when Selection is chosen, not Reference.) It'd be great to get a ref.ly link instead, as I gather that there was some discussion about how to get those to open in the desktop app (although I couldn't install the RegEdit workaround, since it failed to install them on my Win11 PC).

Is there also possibly a way to jump from the resources on the web to the desktop resource?

Ahh I see now, yes. A few stoppers in the flow.

Selection only allow Share link with social media or email.
The Shared link generated biblia link that only opens on website.
i.e : https://biblia.com/books/totc23isus/Is57.1-2

3. So the RegEdit has to be run from time to time due to Microsoft update remove it.

4. Convert ref.ly to L4 https://ref.ly/convert

For Step 1 & 2, it's out of workaround range as it's controlled by FL.

For Step 3, it's possible to set a task scheduler to run the RegEdit file either daily or hourly.

For Step 4 converting ref.ly to L4, it's possible to setup automation to do this.
Such as the Smart Actions in Logi Options + program that allows to perform a series of actions with a Trigger. This is only possible for Logitech mouse. However I think there might be some other automation workarounds besides Logitech. So it's shown for the purpose of introducing the idea of automating the workflow in daily tasks.

Example : This series of actions will be triggered when I press Middle Button on my mouse.

(1 sec delay could be reduced or omit entirely if the device performance is speedy. )

But… the converter seems to be not working for me :(

I think Step 3 is the only viable solution for now…

I saw that you mentioned it's unable to run in Windows11, was there any error? Permission issues?

@John Duffy do you have a subscription? If so, you can accomplish this by navigating to Share → Copy link on the Dynamic toolbar. If not, there is an option to Copy location in the upper-right panel menu (3 dots).

This is the right answer.

That will create a ref.ly link that jumps to the location in the resource from which "Share > Copy Link" was invoked.

Yes, I have a subscription. And I now see the Share → Copy link on the Dynamic toolbar. I didn't realise I could share from there, differently from on a right-click on selected text.

That works great. It generates a ref.ly link to the resource (not the Bible passage). Also, in the past I had come across a post where information was provided on how to automatically get Windows or my browser (I can't remember the details) to automatically push ref.ly links to the desktop programme after the open in a browser. Clicking the link therefore does two things - first it opens in the browser, then it opens (or jumps to the location if it is already open) in the desktop.

That's all working just as needed.

Microsoft updates may remove the regedit so you have to run it again.

I think can set a task scheduler to run it daily or save it somewhere easily accessible so you can run it every time it's not opening the app directly.

And although I tried that registry link yesterday several times, it wouldn't work. I even looked to see if there was the relevant parent folder in the registry for those entries, to see if I could add them manually, there wasn't, so I didn't. But today I though I'd give it one more go, and it worked straight away. I checked the code, and it is the same as what I tried yesterday. Strange, but glad it worked.

So that's all working just as needed.
