Forum Tag Clean Up Request

There seems to be an abundance of tags available for posts, many of them obvious duplicates, and some looking rather redundant, if not useless. Is it possible for these to be de-duplicated and possibly cleaned up, archiving old ones if possible?
Thanks.

There is no official list of available tags. People can tag posts with whatever they want, which is what creates the redundancy. If Logos were able to clean up the tags, as soon they were cleaned up, they'd start getting chaotic again as people would create new tags. Kind of pointless. Many people don't even bother to tag their posts. It's not a very effective way to look for posts anyway, since that depends on the effectiveness of people tagging their posts. The best way to search for posts is using Google. See http://wiki.logos.com/Using_the_Forum#Searching_the_forum_using_Google

Ah. Tags created on the fly from a free text field used by the untrained public. You're right that cleaning probably would be pointless. A usable system of tags on the other hand might not be pointless. I'd assumed that the tags were actually used by MVPs etc. to look for their specialist areas. I guess not.
Thanks for clarifying and for the pointer to the wiki on searching the forums.

We are not really specialists, just volunteers who sometimes offer useful advice.
