The items in the discover lens are owned … I had just reset the prefer local option to no and restarted Verbum
I see the same thing (I have not changed the Prefer Local Data setting - I normally have it set to No)
What I did note is that if I click one of the linked entries I get a message saying the book is not available - even though it is available on the Logos website.
Other types of entries (those that are not biblical passages) seem to be handled correctly (I haven't checked all of them)
Well, i get the same owned data under Commentaries irrespective of the Setting, except the Discover heading only appears with NO (Verbum 44 B2).
When I toggle the Local setting to "Yes" I get the "Counseling" tab. When I set it to "No", I get the Discover tab. Is this behavior to be expected?
I would expect you to only see the Discover Lens with the toggle set to No.
But are you saying you only see the Counseling Lens when it is set to Yes? I would have expected it irrespective of the toggle. If you are seeing this, which with sort of Factbook articles?
Yes, when I have the toggle set to Yes, the Discover lens disappears and the counseling appears and vice versa. This behavior was on multiple articles. If you have a specific one I can try it out. I will say, I've only tested this on my macbook, not my PC yet.
if you have a specific one I can try it out
How about the Counseling theme of Grace
With the toggle set to No I see these lenses:
with it set to Yes I get these
What do you see?
Graham - I get the same. Yet, if I click on the Discover lens with Local Data=No, there are no results for any of the sections! Do you see that?
Yet, if I click on the Discover lens with Local Data=No, there are no results for any of the sections! Do you see that?
No, I get results in sections
Not me…Verbum/Mac 45.0 beta 3
So @Graham Criddle - would you say this is a bug that I get no results?
On my PC with the toggle set to No I get Counseling and Discover, with it set to Yes I get only Counseling. I just checked my Macbook and now I get the same results as my PC. A few days ago the counseling lens disappeared and appeared contingent on the Discover lens. Kind of bizarre since I haven't updated my Macbook's Logos install in that time.
would you say this is a bug that I get no results?
It certainly seems very strange @NetworkGeek
I would suggest flagging it in a different thread as it seems to be nearly the opposite from what @MJ. Smith posted about here.
@Savanna Lineberger
And to which it appears Logos sees no need to respond … how the blank are we supposed to know if this feature which appears to be useless to me is working "correctly" [Yes, I am frustrated at the number of errors that have been getting released since they shortened the beta … and the lack of attention to questions that arise in the shortened beta.]
@MJ. Smith I apologize for missing this thread last week, but I'm actively looking into this with the team now. Is it just that resource you are noticing that with? And do you see that same resource as locked in the All lens as well?
Edit to add: There are two copies of this resource, it looks like you own both, so if you do see this resource listed in your All lens it would be helpful to verify which version you are seeing there (the 1989 or 2017 one)
@NetworkGeek I don't believe there was a separate thread for the issue you noted, are you still experiencing the problem with no results in the Discover lens?
Thanks for getting back to me.
It is ALL the resources listed.
It is the earlier edition - the one pointed to. The second version shows immediately below.
Thanks @MJ. Smith we are having a hard time reproducing so far, but still looking into it. Have you given it a go on the web app by chance? Curious what you're seeing there.
We were finally able to get a repro late yesterday. We have a dev looking into a fix for this now. I will update this thread once we have a fix in place.
@Savanna Lineberger we probably didn't do you any favors by having multiple issues discussed here! Should I see entries under Discover for "Grace", or is that part of the problem being addressed by dev?
Sorry missed this, yes I am! I also discovered this - nothing under "Store" under the Books entry either - the lens doesn't show up. I tried "Compassion", I have 1 Portuguese book show up under Books/Store, and under Discover lens. Maybe there aren't many books from the store online for this feature yet? I can't believe I have everything lol
To clarify what is under investigation…
The situation MJ reported is actually working correctly to some extent. The book being shown in MJ's Factbook is a non-US version. MJ is showing the US version of that book in her library. So the book in Factbook is correctly unowned. However, what is a bug is that the book can not be purchased, and therefore it's not supposed to be getting displayed at all.
I still don't know if discover is supposed to show only my owned resources and under what curcumstances.
I still don't know if discover is supposed to show only my owned resources
My understanding is that it should show only resources you don't own - and that are related to the selected Factbook topic
Discover is not supposed to show owned resources. There was confusion around the TNTC resource. Neither of the ones in your library are the one you are seeing in Factbook. Are you saying that all the others in Factbook are also ones that you own? Or was it just the TNTC one?
@Andrew Batishko
As I have consistently said - ALL the books shown are owned as implied by the title. My suspicion initially was that it was not handling books in the cloud correctly. I reported the problem when the lens was first released and we are at a release candidate and no one has READ the error report?
@MJ. Smith so far the two books you've highlighted (TNTC and now ACCS) are instances where there are two books with the exact same title, one that is sellable and one that is not. I suspect that when you click on the titles in Factbook you will open a panel indicating that the resource is unavailable. It is entirely possible that this will be entirely resolved when the problem of incorrectly showing unsellable resources is fixed. Can you please retest at that point?
@NetworkGeek I believe the issue you're seeing is due to running Verbum. Verbum inherently has fewer resources available for purchase than Logos, and if you already have a fairly substantial library, it would make sense that you wouldn't be seeing anything (or hardly anything) in this section and purchasable items in the books section. If you'd like to chat about this further I would encourage you to create a new thread so we can keep track of the multiple issues reported in this thread and not add further noise here.
Hi @Savanna Lineberger, actually I did create a new thread - and I compared to what I saw online, with a seemingly obvious discrepancy.
I tagged you on it, but here it is:
@MJ. Smith We have pushed a change that should fix the issue you reported here. The code in this area is a little complex and testing it can be a challenge (we had to resort to using several of our personal accounts to even see the issue). Please take another look and let us know if you continue to see issues in the Discover lens. It should only be showing you resources that: A) You don't own B) You could purchase if desired. This does mean some items are left out even if you don't own them, and as Savanna mentioned above, Verbum may have slightly different results from Logos. We really appreciate the effort you put into letting us know if we've missed things in our internal testing. Sometimes (like this particular case) it is possible to miss issues that are directly related to the resources a person has a license for.

This is much better - I found no more false positives. However, I did find an oddity - a book labeled as in my print library which as far as I can tell is not. It shouldn't be but I can't swear that it wasn't used at some point as a test case.
I need a bit more time to test for false negatives.
I love the handling of multiple languages in the Books section.
@Ryan Gano (Logos) Should Gospel Typology in Joshua and Revelation - Verbum have shown up for Factbook Book of Revelation? I do not own it, it is for sale on Verbum, it is in English (there are no English entries under books - only Spanish and Portuguese), and I would be absolutely thrilled if you brought it to my attention.
Thanks for pointing this out. I've asked the team whether it should be tagged differently to show up in Factbook.
Hmm. I'm not sure why that resource we be showing as part of Print Library. I see nothing in the code that would make it special. However, while it looks to me like it should be sellable, I'm not seeing that resource displayed in Factbook (so count your blessings that it is part of your print library so you can buy it? 😇) I'll get a case written up to investigate this as it also affects the Library Store tab. And I'll pass along your comment about how we're handling languages. The team put quite a bit of thought and effort into that and they'll be happy to know it's appreciated.
@MJ. Smith I had one more thought on your situation with the Print Library book. I can't tell from your picture whether you are in the Library or Add to Library tab. Can you confirm that this resource doesn't show up in the Add to Library tab as part of print library? (I wouldn't expect it to be in the Library tab if you don't already have a license for it.)
Library
Add to Library
This is the add to library tab with Factbook - discover lens
Logos Beta Web App / German UI mixes languages for Commentary traditions:
Thanks @NichtnurBibelleser, I will take a look at that.
Thanks, @Savanna Lineberger. Maybe this issue here is related to that.
Definitely seems similar, thank you for the heads up on that one as well.
