Updates and syncronisation

Hi, as I am new to Logos 4, please be patient!
I installed Logos 4 a week ago via disc (I'm not online at home).  At weekend, after my licences had been updated, I took my computer to a friend's house and went online with it there.  It installed and updated everything and it all works perfectly - on both my laptop and tower system.

Last night, I took delivery of a USB modem and was able to go online and sign into Logos 4 - and the Logos server - on both my computers, in the hope it would syncronise the layouts/note files, etc on both my computers.  It didn't make any difference.  That's my first query.

My second query, is that it proceeded to "update" my computer, involving a huge 120Mb download, which with my pitiful modem took nearly 3 hours.  Question: what was it updating?  Everything had been set up online only four days before.  I could see no difference to my library or anything else.  Is this going to happen every time I sign in?

Thanks in advance,]
Nigel Foster

Nigel, there was a resource update earlier this week that involved ~400 MB if you owned every file that was updated. This happens occasionally as typos are fixed and data is restructured to work better with the program. It's not an often occurrence but you just happened to time it right to have to re-download some of your resources.

See: http://wiki.logos.com/An_update_is_downloading,_what_is_it to figure out what is updating.

    Welcome Nigel.

First your synchronization between your two computers should have taken place while you were online. However you do need to see the synchronization icon circling in the upper right corner (next to Layouts). Was that happening? You can click on it to force a manual synchronization. You may have to do that on one machine, then the other, then back to the first machine and do it again to complete the process.

Second, there are frequent updates in Logos 4. For those with slow Internet access or who have to pay by the GB for downloads, this is an extra burden. It has been discussed very often here and so far Logos has not implemented the suggestions that have been made (more user control about download: the ability to select which items to download and when). Often these are updates to resources so there is no change in what you'd see in Logos to indicate what was downloaded. As Kevin pointed out there are some ways to try to figure that out.

Let us know if you have other questions or issues. The Wiki (link at the top of this page) contains a lot of other information you may find helpful.

    Hi Nigel,

Under Tools -> Settings -> Program Settings there are radio buttons which will allow you to suppress automatic updates and/or keep Logos 4 from using the internet.  This may be useful.

Sometimes I don't have the circular "sync" arrows displayed in the window bar.  You should be able to go to the "command" window just to the right of the "Tools" pull down and enter "sync now" in that window.  If you are logged on it should perform a sync.  If it has a problem synchronizing then it should present a small yellow "caution" sign where the sync arrows normally display.  This occurred to me last week when I was having problems with my proxy settings.
