The biggest problem I see (assuming I understand this technology correctly) is that ten's of millions of people still don't have Internet service (or very, very slow service).  Am I missing something?

No, I don't think you are missing anything. I have internet (obviously), but it is spotty and pretty slow. I live in a rural area with few options.

However, I think within just a few years high-speed internet connections will be almost as ubiquitous as electricity and land-line phone service, at least for the vast majority of people.

What about the idea of Bob and his team making a small chip that could be placed in the back of the neck stem that would house all L4 resources. We would no longer need a pc, iphone, droid etc. All we would have to do is to "think" one of our resources and voila there it is right in front of our eyes. Much like a fighter pilot can see maps, terrain, behind and infront of him while he maneuvours his jet, but we wouldn't need a helmet.

Imagine saying to your congregation turn or "think" Romans 1.1 and there it is visually in front of each one. no more notes, overheads, power point etc.

Of course there would be a receptor in this chip that could 'link up' to Logos whenever you wanted to download a book. How would you pay? Simple. ONMIND PAYMENT. Think the transaction and away it goes.

Lest you think this is too 666 then you could just do the cloud thing or even keep our old pc's. And of course if you're not into the "I believe in the Mark of the beast" then it may be a very cool thing to have.

    Isn't technology great. I think :)

I like the quote: "No more computer slowdowns. No more crashes".

Apparently this person has not used Google apps very much...

Anyone who has will be given more and will have more than enough; but anyone who has not will be deprived even of what he has.  Mt. 13:12 We are coming to the time of the anti-gospel I fear, where the poor are not longer blessed... I know there has never been a time when the Gospel was enfleshed fully, but things are worse and some of us holding the name Christian seem to be making it worse...

A non-Christian society is an acquisitive society where each [one] is out to amass as much as [they] can get. A Christian society is a society where no [one] dares to have too much while others have too little, where every [one] must get only to give away. There is loveliness in the Magnificat but in that loveliness there is dynamite. Christianity begets a revolution in each [one] and revolution in the world. --W. Barclay, Gospel of Luke, Daily study Bible series

Nothing that this world holds, will ever affect in any way, what blessings God intends for the poor.

Thats true, no matter what the world does God's plans are not foiled. I just needed to vent a bit I think. I do know that I fall far short of what God calls us to do, but then I see such greed and lack of care and I get frustrated. I still think of Gaundi, "I love Jesus, but I don't like his followers." God's grace will hopefully lead us all to be more loving and patient.

Been there - called mainframes with "dumb" terminal access. All work somewhere out in the network, only screens painted on terminals. Difference today, network is not just inside the company, it's connected the world.

About 8-9 years ago people predicted the "thin computer" because the Internet would do everything. Those computers became useless paperweights. Most people believe a combination of local logic/smarts (desktop PC) and remote/cloud smarts will win out (which is Logos' strategy, and lends itself well to other devices accessing the cloud).

Keep in mind Google still has done little to really penetrate the corporate space as a technology partner beyond dropping search servers in there.  Big companies carry enough Google apps to leverage a better deal with MSFT. Things can always change, but too much power and politics has to shift to make this new paradigm occur.

I highly doubt this will fly.

I hear what you are saying. I am reminded of what Paul has written: "I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people-- not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world." I know he's speaking of non believers, but it still strikes a chord.

My problem is that I wish I could be as righteous as I want others to be...

A disturbing scenario popped into my mind. I saw a future where one day someone is typing something into Google docs, and after hitting the save button, a dialog pops up and states "Save aborted. The content of your document is not in keeping with our terms of service"

Your wistfulness about him leads me to think you believe Gandhi really loved Jesus. What would make one think he loved Jesus... his works? I rather think that Gandhi created an idol in his own image and loved it. If we establish that, then Gandhi's assessment of Christians is then also suspect.

I suppose it was once a cute saying, but it is very old hat by now.

First line  ""Been there - called mainframes with "dumb" terminal access. ""

Last line  ""has to shift to make this new paradigm occur.""

[IMHO] where you said "new paradigm" in your last line I think you meant to say 'return to old paradigm I.E. mainframes'

    Evidence: See your first line

And 'mainframes' was my first thought when reading the 'all-cloud computing experience'

But who will [or how will we] pay to store all of our files on the cloud? [Our monthly INTERNET fees will go up - the higher price would have paid for a 500 gig drive every month - it always costs more to rent then to own] [and will we pay a one time fee [as we do now] for a program [such as a word processor] or will we pay per page written to use the cloud editor ]

And a couple of other versions with interesting readings:

(Complete Apostles' Bible)  What is that which has been? The very thing which shall be. And what is that which has been done? The very thing which shall be done; and there is nothing new under the sun.

(ESV)  What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.
