True or False:

If I do a Basic Search of the SBLGNT Apparatus for "NA" I will be able to see all the places where the SBLGNT differs from the Nestle-Aland text.

    Hi Brian

    True or False:

If I do a Basic Search of the SBLGNT Apparatus for "NA" I will be able to see all the places where the SBLGNT differs from the Nestle-Aland text.

This is actually "False". "NA" is only used in the apparatus when it disagrees with the "NIV" reading. That, and there are times when "NA" is listed as supporting the SBLGNT reading, in a few cases where SBLGNT and NA/UBS agree but NIV disagrees with a particular reading (e.g. Mt 1.7-8 and Mt 1.10). So a search for "NA" will only find where "NA" occurs, and that is where it disagrees with NIV. This was done so as to not burden down the Apparatus with the "NIV NA" combo. That, and the NA comparisons were only done once the SBLGNT was established; we did not use it at all in comparisons while preparing the edition.

That said, there are fields for "Positive Apparatus" and "Negative Apparatus" in the SBLGNT. If you want to find where a particular edition (e.g. NA or NIV) agrees or disagrees with SBLGNT, then try:

Alternately, you could try a search like: (negapp:NIV OR negapp:NA) ANDNOT (posapp:NA OR posapp:NIV) which might work, but I haven't thought about it too much to confirm that.

    Hope it helps.
