Crying

Logos4 crashed at least twice when I was trying to copy some Hebrew BIble text into a prayer list.  I've done that before without problems.

Then, to add insult to injury, it refused to provide me with a single crash log, although I held down control when starting Logos.

When it crashed repeatedly, I was trying to paste Hebrew text into a new prayer list I'd opened in a (possibly overpopulated) Bible study layout.  I eventually got round this by moving to prayer layout and opening my new prayer list in that.  Then it allowed me to paste without going on strike.

I can give you past and present Logos 4 logs, and a previous crash log from a couple of days ago, when I thought I was minding my own business, but Logos4 seemed to think I'd exceeded my competence.....

Today's Logos4 logs:4667.Logos4 - Copy (2).log

present log:

4670.Logos4.log

recent crash log:  28th Oct:

4188.Logos4Crash.txt

There's no crash information in the logs, but a lot of sync activity - reflecting a heavily populated layout! Which log shows the paste activity?

Dave, thanks for your quick and helpful reply!  And congratulations on passing the 6000 mark!

I would think both Logos4 logs. The old crash log was when I was doing something else.
I suspected overpopulated layout might have been the problem.  When I moved to my (less populated) prayer layout it didn't crash.

But have you any idea why it failed to give a crash log, even when I had held down control when opening Logos, and not once, but twice?

    Thanks, Nicky.

No idea! The logs should prompt some response from Logos but in the meantime you need to use a less populated layout!

I am.  Trouble is I put books I'm reading in various Bible study layouts so they're there at hand/mouse.  Also I keep the commentaries I use open in their own tabs in layout.  Maybe it's better if I don't link them?

Maybe it's better if I don't link them?

I tend to keep things simple with my documents & layouts and maybe that's why I don't get lag/response issues, even on my laptop (below). But that's easy for me to say when others want to use the tool the way that suits their study method. I:-

    • make links as needed and then remove them lest I unknowingly link all of them!
    • keep roughly the same 10-12 tabs (2 Search, Collection, Library, 1 English bible, 1 GNT, 2 x lexicons, 1 "encyclopedia", 1 PG, 1 "reading")  but don't mind opening & linking whatever is needed for a particular study.
    • have 18 collections/8 Parallel sets (PRS)
    • don't use Notes; only Clippings, Print/Export & a Word processor

When Logos introduce more optimisations (and 4.2 is a start) I'll be less careful about the number of PRS, resource tabs and links.

yes, I have 21 in one of my Bible study layouts, of which 4 are books I'm reading, one is the Qur'an, which I guess I don't need in that layout.  But most of the others are resources I use.  I think, rather than linking resources, I could copy the reference into each commentary as I open it.

I have PG, 8 commentaries, LDGNT, shall probably add the new critical apparatus GNT, 2 english translations, 2 study Bibles, Wuest;s and Robertson's word studies, 1 lexicon.  I've removed 2 other lexica and the Qur'an.  Still leaves me with 21 taBs.  I was trying to paste Hebrew into a prayer list in that layout when it crashed.  Now I see why.

Trouble is, I want to try out Mo's instructions for making a personal study Bible.  If it crashes again, I'll try depopulating the layout, rather than bothering you again!

I do appreciate your help.  Now I think I see how I can avoid the problem, or remedy it when it happens.  [:D]

Today's crashes have not been due to overpopulation.  It kept crashing when I tried to open a note in my Hebrew Bible items in my prayer list.

Again it refuses to give me a crash log, although I held down control when opening it.  This seems to be a bug in its own right...

I thought my prayer layout was possibly overpopulated with prayer lists, so I closed them all and then opened them one by one, praying thro that list, closing it , then doing t.he same with the next list.  Leaving the Hebrew bible verses till the end.  I also have 4 books, including a Hebrew Bible open in that layout, max about 6 tabs.

    I attach last 2 logos4 logs.

    Let's try this:

Enable permanent logging, start L4 normally, induce the crash, wait a minute and then close L4. Then upload the logs.

I did!  First I had to have 3 or 4 attempts to enable permanent logging.  It's now enabled.  But it wasn't when it crashed  again.

Now, if you please, it refuses to crash!! [:P] So its bolshiness has solved the problem[;)]

Incidentally, I take it we are now on the new website...

Should it arise again it would be best to consult Customer Support; they can login to your computer if needed.

Thank you, Dave.  Sounds very sinister that CS can log in to my computer.  I don't mind them, but who else can get in on the act[*-)]

Yes, but they have to ask & you have to agree at the time! They don't know your computer's "login" details.
