Can someone please help me understand what the difference is between the Logos Reasearch books and others in the digital library?

Ebooks on the Logos platform come as is from the publisher and are designed to be read cover to cover. Links to Bible verses and books will appear in searches, but they have minimal tagging to help you stay focused as you need.
Logos Editions are powerful because they connect to the tools in Logos Bible Platform. Our team tags every book with important information, like topics covered, biblical events mentioned, and theological ideas explored. That means all you have to do is search Logos, and it scans your library, instantly connecting you to relevant information from across all your books.
Two Types of Logos Editions
Logos Research Editions come with our most detailed interlinking. We catalog topics discussed, Scripture references, theological concepts, bibliographic info, citations, and so much more. Then we connect them to Logos tools so you can access essential info in seconds flat.
Logos Reader Editions are designed to be read cover to cover. We tag Scripture references and some other basics, but forgo the robust treatment given to reference works. This drastically speeds up production, which often enables us to release them the same day as print.

Some context to your struggle to understand the distinction between Logos edition types would help me provide you with a more satisfying answer.
Simply stated the Logos Edition type Research Edition is that resource that receives the full benefit of Logos tagging and linking a process that AFAIK has not been thoroughly described, random e.g.

Click on "Learn More" and read the explanation provided for the Logos Editions. The final type is an Ebook it gets little to no extra processing. It is meant purely for reading, but some of these receive processing as Logos Editions after they have been added to the Logos catalog.
I mix up ebooks and reader editions (both cover to cover).

Well, it's because, as an example, research editions, you're not required to read cover-to-cover. All these rules!

This is a warning in the log, but it occurs thousands of times in my log. Logos has only been running a few minutes, and already over 3,000 lines generated in error log since startup. There are other warnings also, just not as frequent as wn.dss.dat. Other similar messages occur with wn.lxx2.dat, wn.lxx.dat, wn.gag.dat.…
