Hi everyone,
I recently purchased the digital edition of Matthew Levering’s Engaging the Doctrine of Jesus (and Mary): A Traditional, Historical-Critical, and Mariological Christology (Cascade Books, 2025) in Verbum. When I tried to cite a passage, I discovered that the digital version does not display page numbers in the footnotes or citation panel.
Would someone who owns the print edition (or a digital version with page numbers) be willing to check which page(s) the following passage appears on?
“Thus, Scheeben cautions that the title ‘Coredemptrix’ can only be used in a highly qualified manner and generally should not be used at all, given that Mary does not contribute anything to Christ’s redemptive power or act.844 Mary does not coordinate with Christ or supplement his work. That said, Mary’s cooperation entails that she contributes to the effects of redemption; the new Eve cooperates with the new Adam. She does so especially through her presence at the foot of the cross, where the (covenant-sealing, sacramental) blood and water comes forth from Christ’s wounded side (John 19:34) and recapitulates the creation of Eve from Adam’s side. While Christ’s sacrifice is superabundantly sufficient for our salvation, it requires to be received and ratified by the covenantal people for whom he dies. Scheeben puts it this way: the participation of Mary in Christ’s redemptive sacrifice, as ‘the spiritual Mother of the other redeemed persons,’ is fitting ‘not in order to constitute or complete the internal power of the work of Redemption, but rather only to complete comprehensively its beauty and loveliness and in particular its organic union with the mankind that is to be redeemed.’845 This union is the new covenant union of Christ and the Church, sealed by Christ and, as I would put it, ratified at the foot of the cross by the participation of Mary and the beloved disciple in the sacramental blood and water that comes forth from Christ.”
I would be very grateful if someone could let me know the correct page numbers for this excerpt.
Thanks in advance for any help!
