I needed to restart Logos, and now when I tried to do an "All" search, that AI thing is there. How do I get rid of it?
Click on Books, then make sure it's set to Precise instead of Smart. That will give you the non-AI search engine.
All only uses AI searching.
It seems Logos is giving everyone free access to it for a limited time.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an option to entirely hide it, but if you ignore the All tab and go strictly to the Books tab and make sure it's set to Precise, that will give you what you need for sure.
I wish Logos would add an option to allow uses to completely hide AI features if need be. While I have personally benefited from Smart Search, there are some users who simply do not want or are unable to use AI features at all.
The other option I'm seeing is you can go offline, but that wouldn't be practical in the event you need to install updates, new books, or backup/sync user content.
If you enter Precise search syntax into the All search tab, it will automatically switch to Precise search mode. But there's no setting to switch it to Precise search yourself unfortunately.
Hi @Kiyah, could you provide a screenshot of what you mean? I'm not sure how to enter the precise search syntax.
@Kristin A precise search uses search operators or data labels:
earth NEAR heaven
headword:Baptism
What types of searches do you normally put in the All tab? If you want more control, you should use the Books tab as Dr. Baker suggested.

Is that correct? If so, that would be an issue since when I am doing an "All" search I really mean it, and I want "all" hits. The AI thing is advertised that "it returns highly-relevant information from Logos resources and generates a synopsis from the most relevant results." That is specifically why I don't want AI (one of the reasons…). I am a researcher and am looking for information which has been neglected, so obviously what I am looking for wouldn't be classified as "highly-relevant" by a robot. So I am worried the "headword" command would do the same thing and disregard some of what I am looking for since it is not the main topic in whatever book. I can't do earth NEAR heaven since I am normally just searching one word.

Headwords are the entries in dictionaries and encyclopedia. headword:baptism would pick up dictionary, encyclopedia, and similar works that have an article titled "baptism".
But to switch to precise, it is easy enough to ask for baptism OR baptisms to force the switch

As you can see on my screenshot, my only option is this AI stuff. If I try to click on the AI symbol the only thing I can do is have Logos define what the AI is doing, but I can't get rid of it
@Kristin I used headword as just an example of what a data label was. I wasn't suggesting that you use that specific data label for your searches.

Ok, thanks, and I finally understand. As mentioned, I only search for one word at a time, but as an example, let's say I wanted the exact hit of "ark" or something, I see that I can say: ark OR fakeword and it defaults to precise and obviously only captures the word I really want since my other word can't be found.
So I admit this is sort of obnoxious compared to how it was before Logos restarted, but at least there is a way to sneak around the AI and keep it's nose out of my work.
Has someone tried it with "ark" yet? Would that force a precise search?

It does not force a precise search.
Searching All will include hits in books that Logos sells but you don't own. Searching Books will restrict the search to just YOUR books. (I use Books as my default search anyway.) Just use that and choose Precise.
I used 100% of my ai allotment last month and then logos became almost useless. Even Factbook was unavailable. It seems like it should have the availability it had prior to ai implementation, shouldn't it?
Maybe I need a refresher in how the whole system works together to get around it or to understand it better.
Hi @Jonathan Huber, yes, I understand the distinction what you said about books. The reason I use "all" is because I am often looking for information not in books specifically. When I do an all search, I guess from now on I will just add "OR fakeword" until Logos goes back to how it was before.
Hi @Steve Kuhn, I am really sorry to hear that. :( This is just a thought, but if you search for whatever you want and add "OR fakeword" does that help at all? Or is the Factbook still dead?
"Books" searches search your entire library. (https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/8715137664013-Books-Search) You can test this by searching for something like "love", then group the search returns by Type. There's everything in there… monographs, journal articles, bibles, media collections… You're searching everything you have, even if "Books" as a label might give the impression that you're not.

Notes and Sermons are searchable in a Docs search
(There is a bug in that you can't just select Notes to search those - but they are included in search results)
Hi @Kiyah, ya, maybe I am mistaken, but I think "your books" excludes locked things from the store (which the All search used to include before the AI stuff). Hi @Graham Criddle, yes, I suppose I am still grateful that I can still search my docs through the "docs" tab. I had just appreciated it how the "all" search searched everything, including my books and docs all at once. I suppose it is ok to search my books, then do the same search again on the docs, so I had really appreciated the "all" function prior to the AI.
Also, on a side note, I am kind of confused why the AI is even getting in the way at all. Given that the AI is a subscription, it seems like if I don't subscribe I should at least have the option to turn the AI off (with the program still functioning, obviously, and not stop working like @Steve Kuhn ran into).

Hi @DMB, ya, what you said had been my thought too. The only thing is though, is that it has sort of backfired for me, as the AI answers have been barking up the wrong tree from my actual search, and further, it draws from books which are not scholarly. Nothing against those types of books, but they just aren't connected to my search. I admit I am kind of confused why it isn't first drawing from the books I have marked as priority books and opting to go to the Sunday School books, but whatever the case, it has really solidified my fear of using AI with my work.
Obviously just my guess, but they're likely tippie-toeing on the training-feeds, that are serving a wide Logosian (and largely conservative) population. Widening the feed without a means of limiting the theology is risky-business (literally).

@Steve Kuhn I'd like a little more clarification on what you mean when you say Factbook was unavailable when you ran out of AI Credits. That’s not what we’d normally expect, so I’d like to understand more about what you saw. I tested with my personal account, and I still have nearly all of Factbook available without interruption. There are two main differences I could find: 1. There is an error displayed when you expand a Question in the new Questions to Ask section (this is a bug and it should say "your credits will refresh on [date].") 2. When you click summarize in a resource result, you get a notice that you are out of credits until [date]. Other than the displayed error (which will be fixed on web shortly, with a fix for Desktop/Mobile following), I couldn't find anything unexpected in the results. Can you let me know what wasn't working so I can do a more targeted investigation here? Also, if you see this again, please post a picture or two of the issue along with a general idea of when the issue occurred as it might help us track down the issues you were facing.

I don't remember exactly what it was. Either of those responses would have caused me to leave. I had waited to get 100% on the last day before it refreshed. I just quit using it till they refreshed and determined not to do that again.

I waited until the last day before refresh to run out of credits and tried it. I didn't really get into what worked and didn't. My impression was that it did not respond normally at all, so I just quit until the next day. It doesn't refresh at midnight, either, it's like it has a record of what hour you first started using credits or something and waits out the total time. :)

I am grateful that I haven't experienced what you did, but I find this concerning. If I understand correctly what @Ryan Gano (Logos), said, however, I think this is some sort of bug and Logos should thankfully still function ok without the AI stuff.
Hi @Ryan Gano (Logos), if you don't mind, could you also clarify how to get around the AI for those of us who truly don't want it? I think it is great that Logos has it as an option for those who do, but with all due respect, it seems reasonable that there is a functional version for those who don't want it. As you might have seen from what I wrote above, I discovered that if I am searching for a word, let's say "grace" as an example, that I can force a precise search by typing "grace OR fakeword" but that seems super bizarre to need to do, especially since before I restarted Logos I could just type "grace" and it worked fine. Is "OR fakeword" truly the best option to avoid the AI? Thank you for any clarity you are able to provide.

I think my post may not have been clear enough originally. There is a bug in version 47 of the application, but it should affect very few people and is not something that will affect anybody in a way that changes feature availability.
The Questions to Ask section in Factbook has two parts: 1. Potential questions to think about for the Factbook topic you're looking at. 2. Answers to those questions
Both of these are AI driven, but only item 2 actually uses any credits. If you happen to get into a situation where you run out of credits you should have the following experience: 1. You see the questions available in the section (driven by AI at no credit cost) 2. When you expand a question, you get a message that says you are out of credits and lets you know when you'll have more credits.
However, right now in version 47, there is a bug. When you are out of credits and expand a question, you get an error rather than a notice. Nothing is changed in the functionality, we are just displaying an error rather than a notice about credits renewing.
We are fixing this (it will certainly be fixed in v48 and will be fixed in an SR if we ship one).
The entire Questions to Ask section is AI driven. There is no Questions to Ask section if there is no AI. You can avoid using this feature by collapsing the Questions to Ask Section. We will not display any questions to users, and as a result, there will be no answers generated.
On the subject of turning AI off generally. That would be a product decision. As far as I'm aware, we've added an icon to all features that use AI. If you don't want to use AI, you can simply avoid areas of the application that include this icon (shown for the Questions to Ask section as reference.
You should see that (in Factbook) only the Questions to Ask section and Summarize option in a Resource result have the icon.
I hope this helps clarify what I was saying and the current state of things.
Ryan PS: For search specifically, you could choose to do a Books search and then have the option of a Smart search or Precise search.
