New logos.com: Upgrade suggestions for Portfolio owners are still bogus

I own Portfolio, so the upgrade suggestions for me are add-on products, not the next level base package. On the old site I had complained that many of the suggestions are for things I already own. I was hoping this was going to be fixed on the new site. It wasn't.

Furthermore, the "Add to Cart" buttons are not grey for those items I already own.

Of these, I already own BDAG/HALOT, AYBD, Ariel, JPS Tanakh, and Horae Homileticae

Rosie, you may want to check if these are marked as owned on their product pages. Even though I own the JPS set, when I search for JPS, it shows that I own all of the individual volumes but not the set. I own BDAG and HALOT separately but not as a bundle.

Yes, this is the big problem. The site isn't intelligent enough to know what volumes make up a set. As far as I'm concerned, if I own every volume in a set, then I own the set. But the website doesn't share that view.

You're right, none of them are marked as owned on the product pages. Three of them I own through Portfolio, and two (AYBD and BDAG/HALOT) I installed off CD many years ago. I can't remember if I bought them or if these were among the freebies that Bob gave me back when he was still doing that. But in any event, Logos knows I have the licenses to them because they are unlocked and usable in my L4. Perhaps they are all part of Portfolio, in fact. But I can't check that because the comparison chart isn't available anymore. And the link to "All Contents" from the Portfolio product description page is broken (it brings up the contents of Scholar's!).

The upgrader is due for a major overhaul. Now that we're hooking up to your license file and know every resource for which you have a license, we have the ability to plumb that logic directly into the upgrader (though our product to resource mapping still needs some work). It's high on the list of things to tackle over the next year.

What to show to Portfolio owners also needs some work. You're absolutely right that we shouldn't be showing you anything here that you already have, but we weren't able to get that logic plumbed in to this particular list. Hopefully we can address this in the nearer future.

As a Portfolio owner, I would "like" such things to be both spiffy and in tip-top shape, but I am FAR more interested in my RESOURCES working properly than I am the website working properly. Whether it is typos, bad or missing links, or whatever, I hope that these are on the top of the "to do" list.

If you are hooking up to my license file will it show I own Word Biblical Commentary & Hermeneia (among many others) that I purchased from sources other than Logos.com but have already registered with Logos? Presently I have a huge slew of titles I have installed, registered and sync-ed with Logos that show nowhere in my unlocks on the "order" page in my account. (They DO show in my bibliography of Libronix Version 3.)

It would be really nice to scan through EVERYTHING I have licensed regardless of purchase origin.

This list of what we own has to be based on our current licenses, not on our Logos purchase history:

when Logos first started we purchased from their local franchise in Canada (Winnipeg) who apparently did not send Logos records of who purchased what, and in any case the licensing system was not the same in those years
Logos products have for years been available through multiple local store and mail order outlets so thousand of people will have sets and titles not purchased drieclt
not everything bought directly from Logos on CD was for the purchaser's collection, many were given away as gifts and other licenses may have been subsequently transfered to others.

Current licences provide Logos with the best database for making suggestions.

Seems to me, after some thought, that this isn't quite as straight forward as it might seem at first look. Say I buy a commentary set. Over the next two years a few additional volumes are published, which I don't buy. Year three these additional volumes are incorporated into the set. Now, suddenly, I don't own the complete set any more. But if I'm the kind that needs to be warned not to buy the same resource twice (which, fortunately, I don't think I am), this is still a resource I need to be warned about. So, should the button be coloured, because technically I don't own the whole set? Or should it be grey, because this isn't a resource I 'should' buy? Or should there be an intermediate level: a coloured button with a warning triangle on top of it, maybe?

And what about something like the Early Church Bundle? Everyone with Silver has already got the ECF, and Platinum has got a book or two more. Will the site eventually know what parts of the Bundle we own and suggest a customized upgrade price, like it's supposed to do with our base packages?

I would like the upgrade page to "see" my resources and then search the website to see if there have been any additions to a set in my resources. It would then say something like: "You need volumes x,y, and z to complete this set. They are available at ... and then give me the option to buy all or part (as finances dictate). If I buy 1 resource in the set, it will now reset to show me that I still need y and z to complete my set. Maybe I'm asking too much, but there are resources that come down from Logos that I forget I even have the resource (partial set) and consequently forget that I might need to purchase to complete my set.

Another scenario might be: "Bill, we are sending you notification (by email) that the following resources can now be purchased to complete you NICNT/OT ('twould be nice if I actually owned that set). You may either purchase the remaining resources for $XX or purchase them individually for $X.99.

It would be nice if Logos could tell us (as in the second scenario) what we need to complete sets of resources...hint, hint, hint [:D]

Keep supplying the resources and as long as my book budget survives, I'll keep purchasing.

This is a great idea, Bill, in many cases, but in others we are stuck with publisher's contracted rights, which prohibit many sets from being sold in individual volumes (other than 'set' upgrades).
