Hardware/OS: MacBook Pro 16-inch (2021), Apple M1 Max, 64 GB RAM, macOS Tahoe 26.2
Summary
Logos Desktop exhibits severe and persistent UI rendering failures across multiple Chromium-based surfaces (Sermon Editor, Resource panels, Home dashboard). Text, toolbars, and images intermittently fail to render, appearing blank or partially painted, while remaining present and clickable. The issue makes basic reading and editing tasks nearly impossible.
This is not document-specific, not index-related, and not resolved by reinstalling.
Symptoms (Consistent & Reproducible)
Sermon Editor
- Selecting a paragraph (especially via triple-click) causes:
- Portions of text to disappear or become jumbled
- Floating formatting toolbar appears only partially (often only the Bold icon)
- Hovering where the toolbar should be sometimes paints icons briefly
- Further hovering causes a blank white pop-up where the toolbar should be
Resource Panels (Books)
- Top toolbar (Home / Search / Notes / etc.) disappears visually
- The toolbar still functions if clicked where it should be
- TOC opens when clicking invisible header areas
Home Dashboard
- Tiles load but cover images do not render, leaving white rectangles
- Data exists but is not painted
Expected Result
All text, toolbars, menus, and images render consistently and remain visible during scrolling, selection, and editing.
Actual Result
UI elements intermittently fail to paint or repaint. Content exists and remains interactive but is visually missing or partially rendered.
Reproduction Steps
- Launch Logos Desktop on macOS Tahoe
- Open a Sermon Document
- Scroll slightly
- Triple-click a paragraph to select it
- Observe text rendering failure and partially painted floating toolbar
- Hover over toolbar area → partial repaint
- Hover again → blank white pop-up
- Open a Resource → toolbar disappears but remains clickable
- Open Home → some tiles show data but no cover images
Troubleshooting Already Attempted
To avoid first-tier suggestions, the following have already been attempted without resolution:
- Verified app is up to date (“Update Now” reports no updates)
- Restarted macOS
- Reset Logos preferences and caches (non-destructive)
- Disabled spell-check while typing
- Attempted GPU/acceleration mitigation via Terminal
- Fully uninstalled Logos via CleanMyMac and reinstalled from Logos website
- App still retained session/account state
- Issue persisted unchanged
Notes
- The issue affects multiple UI surfaces, not just sermons
- Content and click targets remain present
- This appears to be a Chromium/CEF paint or compositor failure, not data loss
- Scrolling, resizing the window, or switching tabs sometimes forces a temporary repaint
Attachments
- Screenshots showing:
- Partially rendered floating toolbar
- Blank white pop-ups
- Missing resource toolbar icons
- White Home tiles with invisible covers
