Merging and Splitting Note files

It would be very nice to be able to both MERGE and SPLIT note files.  Right
now, I have double of all my note
files, since I had to start new note files with L4 before the importing
feature was developed.   These are huge note files, so it isn't
practical to cut and paste one by one!  ALSO, in view of the horribly
slow note editor, i would like to split apart my note files into smaller
ones, both to organize them more effectively, and hopefully to improve
the speed of the editor.

This is probably not what you would like to do. But if you open both notes files side-by-side and select compact view in both. You can drag and drop notes from one to the other (one at a time). This is probably faster than cut and paste.
