Blog grammar and spelling

Emboldened by the thread regarding typos I raise the issue of poorly expressed Blog posts. My first guess is that those posting think they are too rushed to read what they have entered. My second guess is that no second set of eyes is reviewing what has been entered.

And who am I to note this? "It takes one to know one," in this case, one whose writing needs to be checked Smile

You are so right, Steve.

Some contributors could helpfully give a bit more thought to whether or not they are expressing clearly what it is they want to ask or say. Too many threads consist of unnecessary dialogues as would-be helpers try to find out what the original question meant.

Also, it's very easy, when composing a post, to click the Post button before reading carefully through the draft. I know that from personal experience!

So take your time, good posters! Spend just that extra moment or two and make everybody's life a bit happier! And, for myself, I'll try and practise what I preach.

Are you talking about the Logos Blog or the Logos Forums? A Blog is not the same thing as a Forum. The Blog contains news and info from Logos directly and the Forum is for everyone to use. (I wasn't sure to whom your post was directed: Logos employees or everyone)

Just remember that a lot of the people writing here don't have English as their native language.

And many who ask questions are too new to the software to understand that their questions cannot be answered without a lot more information.

At least it's still morning in Oregon.

As a frequenter of both the Blog and the Fora, I was addressing those who post on both: am I the only reader of the Fora troubled by grammatical lapses? If not, might our beloved siblings in the faith at Logos take note?

[:P] Ah, yes. I notice a lot of spelling errors, and typos and grammatical errors and convoluted thinking and improper use of commas, other punctuational devices included, and (did anyone say) run-on sentences? [:$] Then there is the abuse of text formatting features.

It really hurts to read that last sentence. I post more than my share of error to the forums. I have even begun using a spell checker but miss the little red lines highlighting suspect spellings.

We must remember the forum posts are made by users from every walk of life. Some have had an excellent education, others have not. Some posters are writing in their second or third language. Some posters struggle with physical disabilities that interfere with their ability to communicate their thoughts. A few posters are so addicted to the forum they are operationg under sleep deprivation conditions. (I'm not mentioning any names.)

I will agree the vast majority of errors are avoidable and are born of laziness, haste , or heightened emotional frenzy. I can live with the typos so long as we make better attempts to treat everyone with respect and love. Re-reading our post before submission would improve things.
