The new low cost macBook is here. Shipping on 3-11. Base model is $599. $499 with student discount.
Limitations which might apply for running Logos are the 8GB RAM and 256 GB SSD specs.
The A18 processor chip is said to be about the equivalent an M2 processor at single core performance, but lower in sustained multicore performance. It remains to be seen how well this model can run Logos. There has been much discussion on the forum already about previous macBooks and whether these specs are adequate for a large library.
This machine might work for many Logos users. An extra $100 gets you double the storage space and touch id for login. Without touch id, you have to sign in with a password? I think touch id should have been standard. But going for 512 GB is probably a good move for $100 extra.
The obvious advantages over a comparably priced Windows laptop would be the retina display (small at 13”, but apple retina quality and 2408 by 1506 resolution) and much longer battery life.
MacOS does not have the telemetry and spying issues, and does not display ads like Windows 11 does.
I will not be getting one because i already have an M2 macbook. But i am interested to see how well this model performs with Logos.
