The Legacy Standard Bible formatting in Logos makes this resource unusable. Apparently, the verse by verse layout rather than paragraph layout is a well-known, "legacy" problem. Pun intended. When can we expect a fix?
The original NASB and various updates existed for decades in that same format. In fact, many users complained that the first paragraphed versions had corrupted the preferred format of NASB.
Why do you this the verse format makes the resource unusable? Paragraphs are not inspired, but are a human invention to aid in human comprehension. Paragraphing varies from version to version.
Hey Jack,
You are correct on both counts! The paragraphs aren't inspired and it varies between translations. But I would offer that most languages tend to work in similar ways. Similar ideas tend to be discussed in a unit, usually a paragraph. Paragraphs improve readability and flow. The original manuscripts didn't have spaces between the words, but our convention in English is that we do. It makes it easier to read. That's the point. Careful exegesis is required either way.
If the print edition is verse by verse layout then the Logos edition should match it. Logos should not override the publisher and change it. Paragraph and sentence divisions are arbitrary and can vary from translation to translation. If reading verse by verse somehow forces us to slow down and reflect more deeply on the text that is a good thing in my eyes. It doesn’t impact my ability tu read the text not having paragraphs . The scriptures aren’t just another book originally written in English So I don’t have an issue with the LSB not looking like other modern books. My preference would be for the LSB in Logos to remain as it is.
