Exporting Library catalogue

Question

I am using the BookShelf app to keep track of all my books and reading (public library, Kindle, Logos, physical library), and want to import the catalogue of my Logos library into the app. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on the best way to do that.

I tried exporting the library as an XML file, but the file ended up having 8 of every single resource. It also reported a few errors in trying to open it in Excel.

BookShelf takes either CSV or XLSX files.

Actually, XML is nearly the only way Logos exports the library content…..

You'll need to select those you want to export (Strg-A will select all)

and then use Print/Export from the panel menu ("kebap menu") in the top right corner of the library panel. It will offer to save as file - regardless of spreadsheet or XML, it will write an XML file. I can see that when I select "XML" for my selected 21 most recent books, it will produce a file that looks buggy with several near-identical lines per book (just over 150 lines) if opened as a workbook in Excel. This is probably caused either by the Logos export or the Excel import - it produces separate lines for e.g. the separate subjects that are associated with a book, rather than  putting these all into one cell.

The "spreadsheet" format will actually write an XML-file, too (looking slightly but not much different when opened in a plain text editor), and this one will open in Excel just fine with one line per book - if this floats the boat with your program, use it instead of "XML"-format.

I know that a Collection of your books can be exported as an XML file and you can make Word its default app (Excel was not listed for this).  My 20 books were listed without duplicates. Beyond that you need to consult "Bookshelf"
