Just became acquainted with the Logos software. I am a layperson wanting something for personal study (my wife does do some teaching). Is the Christian Home edition a good place to start? Thanks!

Hi Larry, it's as good as any, you can always upgrade to a better package as you see what's availble, or purchase other Pre-Pubs as they come availble. Depending what your finances are, the next package the "Bible Study Edition" has more functionality, like Biblical Places and other database functions... it's also got more maps.

Go to the Logos page and do a comparsion, then decide what's best for you.

Can't go wrong with whatever you decide.

The Home Library is okay, Larry (especially at the 20% discount currently offered as a response to the redesign.)

The Bible Study Library certainly has more resources (commentaries, Bible dictionaries, Bible background, ...) making it better value perhaps. The Leaders' Library has additional books on ministering to people that sound like they may not be applicable for you.

This page lists what's in each package:  http://www.logos.com/comparison

Once you choose one, be sure to do the free on-line video tutorials. It's a powerful program, and there is a lot to learn. And stay in touch through these forums.

    All the best.

If I were looking towards the lower end of the scale I would really push for the Leaders edition, Bible study at a minimum. while it may not seem like the interlinears are something you would use, I wouldn't want a package without them. If finances make it either a Christian Home or nothing proposition I would still get the Christian Home but If you can sport the extra 90-140 for the Bible Study/Leader I would definitely go for it. I wouldn't recommend anything above the leaders for where it sounds like you are at now.

Maybe my eyeglasses need upgrading but the front page of 'Christian Home' says 14 Bibles 'and interlinears'. If you then go to the comparison page, the interlinears are listed separately  (and not in Christian Home) but a note says they're included in the respective Bibles. Wonder which it is. If included, Christian Home sure a good deal right now.

I'm not positive on the answer to that but either way if you have the money I would go at least for the Bible Study set, Leaders if possible. Just my opinion, though.

To get the Interlinear versions of the Bibles** you need the Bible Study library, and that would be my recommendation for Study purposes having started with Christian Home (some years ago) and then bought individually many of the books in Bible Study!

** you open the NKJV bible, for example, and choose whether to view the Interlinear information or not.

I would strongly recommend starting with the Bible Study Library. That is where I started 3 yrs ago.

If you look down the comparison chart, you will see that it has far more useful resources.

Many of the basic useful features of Logos 4 are not included in the Christian Home pkg. There is a world of difference between the 2 pkgs.

Logos sales reps are great in answering any questions that you may have. Dave Kaplan has been a great help to me.
