Progress bars on pre-pub page aren't updated in real time

The NT Wright Collectin pre-pub seems to be gaining momentum quickly. It was up to 27% last time I checked:

But on the main pre-pub page, even after I refresh the page, it still shows a barely started progress bar (1%) for this collection:

It seems like those progress bars for the main page are cached and not updated as frequently. They should be updated whenever I refresh the page. At least for newly posted items that are likely to be in flux.

We're aware of this issue and are looking into ways to improve it. Currently, it's a trade-off between being up to date and accurate and keeping the website performing speedily. For now, we've opted for the latter. These bars should get in sync every night, but I completely agree that it would be ideal if they reflected the actual numbers in real time and always matched each other.

Can't they be pre-computed and cached every time someone places an order? I mean that's going to be a relatively time consuming operation so the person wouldn't notice if a wee bit of extra time was taken to cache the new progress graph for that product. The times you want to be zippy of course are when someone asks to refresh a page with lots of these little charts on it. But if they've all been figured out ahead of time and cached, that should be a piece of cake.
