When I first bought bible software, I got a copy of eBible on sale. Subsequently I upgraded to Libronix 3, and then to L4. I want to find a way to introduce my pastor to L4, and wondered if there would be some reasonably priced (i.e. $50 or less) way to give him a taste of L4?

I've been thinking about this too. The cheapest way I have found to to get full L4 functionality would be to get a discount eBible package ($10.00 to $30.00), and then purchase the minimal crossgrade for $69.95.

Ends up being a little less expensive (maybe not a better deal though) than the Christian Home Library currently on sale for $119.96.

Hi Esther,

I want to say that it is always nice when someone from the congregation gives us something that they think will help us. This being said, all too often I tend to toss the items into recycle bin simply because I will not use it.

Because of this, I would recommend that you ask your pastor to see if she/he will first honestly use it. I say this for the following reasons, #1 - does your pastor have a fast enough computer to run L4. Hint: most of us don't. #2 - How much education does your pastor have. Does she/he have a mdiv or phd? Why is this important? I think it is safe to say that someone who has his/her Mdiv would not find any package under the Original Language package useful. This is because we would already have the books that fits our theology, and we are already stuck in our ways to try something new.

Tom...thanks for the insight. I've spoken with my pastor, and from the information I gathered, I'm willing to take all those risks.

You would throw a gift from a parishioner that cost $50 in the trash?

Yowza. Seems to me like you might at least pass it on to someone who could use it.

Esther I can't speak for others but my answer would be no. However the more important question might be whether that $50 would be put to good use.

If you want to go this route you would have to go the Nelson/ebible route as Logos has nothing in your price range. That means Libronix software which should run on an older computer. The Ultimate Bible Reference Library (I thinks that's the most recent name) has lots of material at about half what you want to spend. You may have to shop around the Internet to find it, however.

I know you want to help your pastor go electronic. If you decide otherwise I think the Crossway ESV Bible Atlas would make another excellent gift, is under $50.00, and I can't imagine he wouldn't appreciate and use.

Great!!! I always encourage everyone to first ask her/his pastor what they need or want. Once the congregation that I just left found out that I liked pies, OH MY!!! I had to say to a couple of people that I am receiving too many pies, and that I couldn't eat all of them if I wanted to (and I did want to).

It all depends on what it is. I have tossed several books into the recycling bin. Why not pass it on? Because the teachings within the book does not fit the theology that I teach and preach. (Note: none of the books came close to $50)
