Can someone explain Logos and Libronix connection?

When I first got involved with Logos it was known as Logos and definitely a Bible software publishing company. Then they announced what I understood was a merger and the Libronix was born. My thought were when they announced Libronix that the powers to be was trying to get into secular publishing and the Bible Software program Logos was just one side of the business. Frankly I saw it as the beginning of the end of Logos Bible software. Figuring the once Libronix got established all resources and energy would be trained on what is suspected to be a more profitable ventures of secular publishing.

The next release of Logos (Logos 3) was running on this new platform and had a new icon which was red sort of depicting a mountian peak with halo of stars. Again and indication of a shift away from Bible publishing. Things were also done way different than Logos 2 and that was explained the Libronix platform being different required these changes.

The came Logos 4 no mention of Libronix and another Icon change. This time going back to something similar to the Logos 2 icon with a cross on it. It was if they were moving back to Bible publishing.

However now there seems to have been a divorce. Libronix is not even mentioned.

What is the story if I may be so bold to ask?

This is just me talking here, nothing official.

In a nutshell; Logos is still owned and directed by the original founders Bob Pritchett and his father Dale. There was a brief moment where Logos was offered publicly (IPO) but has returned to being privately held. Logos has always been a Bible software company. It just so happens one of Bob Pritchett's strengths is creating search engines. When the Libronix search engine was recognized for the jewel it is, several non-Bible publications were published to take advantage of it's capabilities. As time went on, so did Bob Pritchett's vision for Bible study. You could say he "re-imagined" it. There are blogs and forum post where Bob goes into great detail why Libronix was replaced with Logos 4. Check out what Graham just posted above.

There is no divorce of Libronix from Logos. It is just that the one is being replaced by the other. I am rather amazed at the continuing support Logos has for Libronix users. (Almost all resources are still made available in both versions.) Most other companies abandon software when the new generation ships.

As far as the icon changes: A totally new product like Logos 4 (and Libronix in it's heyday) deserve a new icon. There was once a day when bell-bottoms, wide ties, polyester suits and sideburns were the rage.....along with avacado, harvest gold and chocolate brown kitchen appliances...... Need I say more?

Bob Pritchett would be the best one to answer this. Libronix is a corporation wholly owned by Logos Research Systems, Inc. I think the direction Logos was taking at the time was an attempt to distinguish between Logos Bible Software (LBS) and what other publishers could produce that would be compatible with LBS without advertising that brand. So Libronix was the engine that powered LBS but also other publisher's products (like Nelson's eBible offerings which never mention Logos only Libronix). Libronix is a "Digital Library System" not specifically Bible study software. From early days Logos did publish some non-Bible study material (there was a model railroading product at one time). Libronix was thus not a departure from what Logos always was. However only Bob could let us in on how Libronix Corporation is being used at this time and give a fuller answer to the question.

I think it would be cool if Bob and the crew expanded their product to reach a larger market share. I do not know if the medical or legal communities have (I am assuming that they do) have something similar to Logos. If they don't, why not expand into this market? I see nothing wrong with this.
