I downloaded Logos 4, and while lectionary is checked on customization, I do not see it anywhere? It does not show any lectionaries in my library. And yet I had access to my lectionaries on Libronix 3. Please help.
Hi Philip:
In Libronix 3 your lectionaries appeared in the left hand side panel; but if you remember back to when you first used them, this required a little customization of the Logos Home panel. In Logos 4, your lectionary will appear on the top broad blue bar where your prayer list and prefered bibles are shown, but again only after you have done a little customization of your interface.
To get this organized, click on the word "Customize" on the narrow grey bar at the bottom left of your Logos 4 window. There you get to check the boxes to selection features or content that are shown at your option. (Looks like you may have already done that).
What it looks like : A small section of your top blue bar with "Date | Season" then underneath "Special Day" and then underneath again the readings "OT, Psalm, Epistle, Gospel" (with links to the relevant Bible passages - which also work "on mouse over" to bring up the reading in a box)
Mine (RCL) currently shows:
November 25, 2010 | Ordinary TimeThanksgiving DayDt 26:1-11; Ps100; Php 4:4-9; Jn 6:25-35
If you click on the first two lines, that will bring up, in new windows, the more comprehensive Lectionary information that you were familiar with in Libronix 3.
Looks like Philip said he does have the lectionary checked in the Customize menu.
Philip, when you open your Library and type lectionary in the Find box at the top of it, do you see any lectionaries listed? All the L4 base packages have 7 lectionaries in them. And whatever lectionaries you had in L3 you should have in L4. Perhaps the L4 files didn't download correctly for some reason. Sounds like you just upgraded the L4 the free way by getting the engine only, but this will limit some of the functionality of the program unfortunately. Lectionaries are integrated right into the user interface (unlike some of the other standalone resources) so maybe they won't work unless you do the minimal crossgrade (Option 3 of the 4 Ways to Get Logos 4).
Sorry Rosie: I was editing my first post when you posted..... [:(]
I am hoping it is just that Philip has not yet noticed it is there: at first sight, the implementation is a lot less obvious that it was in Libronix 3.
Question, did you upgrade to L4 or did you download the L4 engine? If you just download the engine, then you do not have the lectionary resources for L4.
I did just do the core engine. I do not have any use for the other resources. I did purchase just the lectionary that I need, the Lutheran Service Book One.I use logos for Luther's Works and nothing else. Seems odd that I would have lost that resource by upgrading. Logos 4 is suppose to be backwards compatible. Any more help? I just want my one lectionary back.
Which Bible versions do you have in Logos 4 for the Lectionary to use?
Sorry, I have the ESV and Authorized bible.
L4 IS NOT backwards compatible to L3.
There are several items in L3 that is not imported to L4, and the items that are not part of L4 keeps me using L3.
Seems odd that I would have lost that resource by upgrading. Logos 4 is suppose to be backwards compatible.
Hi, Philip...
Here's what I think is going on - in Logos 3, the lectionary viewer was an addin. In Logos 4, each lectionary is a separate resource, like any other resource in your library. Upgrades to the Logos engine are always free, but there are sometimes features in the new software that depend on having certain resources in your library, and those resources are not free. Lectionaries are now one of these features. The Biblical Facts tools are another good example.
I don't believe the individual lectionaries are available for purchase on Logos' web site - you'll need to purchase at least the crossgrade in order to have access to them.
Although I understand how Logos is making a technical distinction here between resources and features, I think it's unfortunate that users who spent money on the lectionary addin would no longer have access to their lectionaries, just because Logos decided it made more sense to base their lectionary study off of resources rather than an addin. To my way of thinking, if a user paid for lectionary functionality in Logos 3, and lectionary functionality exists in Logos 4 (albeit using a different behind-the-scenes approach), it's not fair to force that user into purchasing the crossgrade just to maintain feature parity.
The same thing happened with parallel passages. In Libronix, I used to have Aland's excellent Synopsis of the Four Gospels. Not so in Logos 4, because the Leader's Library package that was the best I could afford included several synopses, but not my favorite one, which I used to have.
It's one thing for a feature to go away - that's unfortunate, but it happens as software develops. But when the feature is essentially there, just in a slightly different implementation, and users lose it anyway because of a technicality, that's really too bad.
So unless you're willing to spend some money, I'm pretty sure you'll need to consult Logos 3 or some other external reference to get the lectionary readings. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you. [:(]
The Lectionaries are available in all the base packages. I assume you have checked the Customize on the home page and not found lectionaries among the items that you can display / sequence? And you have sorted your library by file type and not found a lectionary type? If you have done both of these, call customer service. You are not supposed to lose resources and given the percentage of lectionary users in Logos, this could have slipped through the cracks.
You are not supposed to lose resources
FYI... Lectionaries in L3 were not a resource, they were an add-in. This is why Philip cannot find them.
The Lectionaries are available in all the base packages.
Problem is he doesn't have one of the base packages.
I think Logos needs to allow users who bought a resource for L3 to continue using it, even if that resource is only sold as part of a larger package now which the user does not have. It is probably an oversight which could be fixed by calling Customer Service. However in this case, since the lectionary used to be an add-in and is now a resource, and there is no way to buy just that resource, they might have a hard time meeting that request. But there are ways.

An add-in for which one could make XML files to cover options Logos didn't ... although with a number of limitations. But many of the add-ins from L3 did transfer to L4 ... and I suspect that the failure to include it in a base conversion was an oversight rather than a conscious decision. I think there is a good chance that if he calls customer service the issue will be resolved.

Something which might be worth trying since it doesn't require much effort and not cost is to try synchronizing your licenses in L3 then close L4 and reopen it. If it doesn't work then you are no worse off than previously.
This is something that I have done several times, and I still do not have the lectionaries because I just update then engine. I have not upgraded because of my dislike for L4.

Have you contacted customer service? that seems to be the only realistic way to get an answer.
