Hey Floyd, thanks for the link. How do you get bit.ly to give you a readable link name? Is that only available for bit.ly Pro users?
Since I do not use Pro, I assume it is available for anybody. After making a link and getting their semi-random name, there is a button that says, "Customize":
After pressing this link, you can use a word of your choosing that has not been previously used. I find that 1/2 to 2/3 of my first choice words have previously been used, but I can usually find a useful term that will serve my purpose. For example, for the article on cloud computing I had tried both "Cloud" and "Cloud_Computing" before settling on "Cloud_Comp".
There are a couple of other sites that allow for similar personalization. If I wasn't so lazy, I might go looking at those to see if my first choice terms were available.
Thanks! I'd never noticed that before (even though it's in plain sight!) and couldn't find any info on how to do it through bit.ly Help or Google searching (that's unlike me).
Turns out I did need to sign up for a bit.ly account in order to use it, but it was the free Basic account.
Okay, now that your mention it, I do remember doing that. I knew I had not paid for an account - so the Pro account made no sense. Thanks for the follow-up.
