iPhone 3G ios 4 Logos App - Painfully slow...
I have poor internet reception, and many times I have the internet turned off on my phone as a result...
Most Bible pages take 10 seconds to load on average. This is completely unusable - by the time I get to a passage, the speaker has already moved on to the next scripture. I am using offline books - NASV, ESV, GNT... Odd thing was that the GNT ony seemedto have a few second delay, and once the book was open there seemed to be no other delays. With the NASV and ESV, if I went back one page, it resulted in a 10 second delay. If I go forward 5 pages or so, it results in a 10 second delay...
Is this a iOS problem, an internet problem, or a Logos problem?
Thanks

You internet sped will have a major impact on Logos because it;s reading everything from a cloud server.
Three things you should do:
1. May sure you are updated to 4.2.1 (early versions of 4, were notoriously slow on the 3G handset, I have been told that 4.2.1 makes a big improvement).
2. Download a book for airplane mode reading ( you do this by opening up a resource, clicking the blue info i at the top right of the screen and clicking the on off switch assuming it is available. This will start the entire resource to be transferred to your iphone.).
3. Put your iphone into airplane mode and try reading the book and seeing how it functions now (note currently you will not be able to access footnotes in airplane mode, and I wouldn't download more books than you need at the moment because Logos is revamping the iOS program and have already told us we will need to redownload things to our phone, currently a simplified version is converted and downloaded to our phones, the next version will actually use native logos files, and if we are really lucky maybe we will be able to sync with our computers rather than download them of the cloud).

Logos iPhone is slow, but the new version coming soon should feature much improved offline performance within resources. You didn't say which device you had. Obivously the iPhone 3G is slower than the 3GS, which is slower than the 4. Ten seconds is excessive, it's more like 3-4s for me (and then only every ten pages or so).

I've the same issue and the option of enabling Airplane mode is not an acceptable option for me.
What I've done recently on my iPhone 4 is to install the free ESV Bible app and I use that in Church now when the Pastor is referencing a lot of non-contiguous verses. I do love the Logos app when he stays in a specific passage as I use the word study to get more info on key words that 'speak' to me in the passage.
I do hope the next release is faster so I can save some space on my iPhone 4 by removing the other app and sticking with Logos.

Switching to airplane mode is not realistic - though it would help with concentration.
10 seconds is NOT an exaggeration. On 4.0.1 - May try to upgrade to 4.2.1 but, I am in that great big country in the EAST and rely on a jailbroken phone. Also rely on Logos - but I may have to switch to ESV or other app...

Wonderful, just wonderful.
Yes I own two iphones, but do not get me started about how I feel about Apple as a company and their business practices...
