Struggling to find the set of subjects in order to create a collection of Biblical Theology

I'm trying to work out if there is a better solution than using Logos' catalogue of subjects (library sort by subject then create a filter on one of those subjects

Pressing the info button sometimes shows a subject in the indexes field but if you want to look at a rather narrow selection like "Biblical Theology" or "Church History" you end up with a mess

e.g. CHURCH HISTORY is currently defined as title:church OR title:history OR "ante-nicene fathers" and I'm still sure that I'm missing many resources including the reformation and

I don't particularly want to add an OR for every part of church history and I'm sure logos must have a better solution

Another Collection that just completely fails is my "Biblical Theology" collection... I cannot thin this selection down past theology without losing the bulk of the books in that category

any ideas?

It does have a collection for Biblical Theology, but I didn't notice one for Church History. However looking at some of the examples might give you some ideas for how to build your collection better.

Another thought is to cast a very broad net. for instance try this

Church History ANDNOT type:comm

or simply type in:

Church History

by not forcing it to look in only the subject or title field it searches in every available field. At the same time this narrowed my library of 2400 resources down to just 45. Then you can open up your library in a pane next to your collection and use the same limiting string in it as you did in your collection. Then simply drag the resources you don't want to include in your collection over to the exclude area.

Sometimes it's easier to use tagging to pick up the missing books. Your collection won't be entirely dynamic that way, but you can be more specific about what you include and you don't have to have a huge list of ORs.

For example, here's my developing History of Christianity collection (still in progress and probably needs to be refined further, but it has 44 books in it thus far):

((title:church AND title:history) OR (title:christian AND title:history) OR mytag:HistXty) ANDNOT mytag:biog ANDNOT title:doctrine

Wow! good find!

Setup a bunch of collections, I especially like the use of mytag: to manually add them without messing with the manually add resources drop box which seems to crash Logos 4.1 SR-4 every time I try to drop in a book from the library (although it's happy accepting collections ????)

Church history is a pretty good example of exactly the sort of collection that's very hard to built 100% dynamically. I think Rosie's strategy is best - to build some of it dynamically, and include others based on tagging. (I always prefer tagging to "plus these resources". If they're tagged, resources can also be used in similar related collections in the future.)

But I wonder if we can do a little better than Rosie's starting point. I've been experimenting, and my string is too complex, but you might find a happy medium between mine and Rosie's, perhaps.
