The question is "Has anyone done this?" not " Can one do this?" I realize I am bordering on blasphemy (for some) but am curious.
" Can one do this?"
Yes you can. You can read Bob Pritchett's response on this thread if you want. Why transfer fees? - Logos Bible Software Forums
(If they had, why would they be reading this forum?)
I appreciate your response, but , once again, does anyone know some one who HAS DONE this? The entire library I mean?
This is very comforting to know....I am 66 years old, have spent over 5,000.00 on Logos4 and am still ordering and purchasing books. I have a large hard copy library of books, which if something happens to me my wife can give the to a church library. I have concerned about all my on online resources...my wife doesn't even know how to turn on a computer on, so it will not help her at all to keep them. It sounds like the possibility to transfer my account to anyone is available and if no relative wanted them they could be donate them to a seminary student, current pastor, etc.
If I knew I could get at least 60 percent of my investment back, I would sell mine. When I began using Logos in March of 1999 there were not nearly the amount of free resources that there are now. I am not a pastor and do not even teach a SS class. E-Sword would do me fine for what I need. I would miss some of my resources but would make a small investment to repurchase a few of them. I have found that I have sunk A LOT of money into Logos that I wish I had back.
Nevertheless, if I could not get at least 60 percent back, I would forget it.
Have you considered donating your library to a seminary or bible college student who cannot afford to buy it on their own? I am not one of those people, but I have thought about that as option when I go home to be with the Lord. If not that maybe a young pastor who is on a limited budget?
Something to consider.[:)]
Yes I did! There...I'm sorry...LOL...I did it when I had Libronix QB and wasn't really using it, so someone wanted to buy it and I sold it. Now I can tell you this, as soon as I sold it I started purchasing some great deals by third parties and I wanted my Scholar's Library back, but obviously I couldn't purchase it, so what I ended up doing was purchase Logos 3 Silver, then upgraded to Gold and a month later Logos 4 came out and upgraded to Gold 4, but quickly got the itch for Platinum and ever since then, I have not sold my resources, on the contrary, I have added all kinds and even Spanish titles and as a result I have one of the largest bilingual Logos libraries ever. [sorry for the run on sentence...hehe]. So yes, I did it and I missed it really quick after I did it; therefore, I don't recommend selling your library to anybody, you will miss it as soon as you put it on someone else's hands! That's all!

My wife and I have even discussed this. Though it would take some work on her part to figure out how to do it,if anything should happen to me, she has been asked to contact my seminary and offer it to a deserving student who otherwise could not afford it.
I am not thinking of selling my license right now, but it is always good to keep your Logos login and password somewhere, so that if you leave earth unexpectedly, someone can still use your license after you.
Likewise, I try to backup all possible passwords (to the websites you administrate, to the domains, bank accounts etc.), so that my wife can catch up if something happens with me. Of course, that doesn't solve cases when we travel together, but I am not that paranoic right now...
Some good responses. I have considered donating. The Lord would have to impress me with a particular person or organization. I think the real answer is just to carefully control my spending from now on and keep what I have!

Curious Shawn, why do you want to part with your Logos?

That is not an easy task (with all the great stuff in the pre-pub). I try to do it this way also. Partly successful. [:(]

Or volunteer to start teaching a class so you can better justify what you've already spent! (In the interest of full disclosure, this suggestion does come from a pastor.)

LOL, I hear you. Kind of reminds me of an old sales manager I had in the secular world. One of his favorite sayings was "always be selling".
Shawn,
I did this a few years ago. At the time I had the highest collection you could get, Scholars Gold, I think, and a good number of resources that I'd bought on pre-pub or during various sales.
I sold absolutely everything to one person for a fraction of what I bought it for (had to move it quickly), and all I kept were the Christmas Special Volumes 1-3 that were put out a few years back (cause I knew I'd never be able to buy those again).
Now that I have a nice income, I'm working on rebuilding what I sold back then.
So yeah, it can be done, you just need to talk to Logos so they can transfer over the licenses.
With all that said, what are you thinking of selling? :-)
I suspect these comments will not be welcomed by all. Neverthless, I would like to add them to the discussion at hand and direct them only to myself.
There is a very sad irony that I have such amazing tools and wealth of biblical information at my finger tips to study the lives of first century Christians, Old Testament believers, and those down through the ages in other extra-biblical works, and yet with the accumulation of all this information doesn’t in itself resolve the issue of will, in itself cause an increasing desire to please God, because in the end these things are not found in resources but in a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ.
When it comes to things like this very good software, I perceive there is the same issue of greed at work in me as the world has in acquiring a bigger house, faster car, or better whatever. Of course I tell myself that I must purchase that next resource, regardless of the cost and circumstances, because it will make me a better Christian or better teacher in order to serve other believers. And perhaps there is truth in that.
However, when I behold the faith of those that went before me, people just like me but without even the complete NT like first century Christians, or before them Jewish (and some Gentile) believers without a complete OT, and those after them with just perhaps one translation and nothing else, well it ought to at least remind me that the size of my Logos library must be irrelevant since those that went before me had nothing of the sort. At best it is only a help along the way.
Though very new to Logos, I already have more resources than I could possibly fully digest in my life. Yet there are still more resources I intend to purchase, more that Logos will eventually make available to me. Yet the truth is that all I ever really needed, and that many other believers only had, was the Bible itself, and I suspect it will take a lifetime and eternity too in order to fathom it!
Regards

Greg, when I bought my first Logos product (MacArthur's Library) in '99 I was single and had plenty of money. Also, I had lots of time to study uninterrupted. ALSO, I had few interests. Now........well I have a wife and 3 kids and a budget. Less time for study, less extra money, and priorities have changed!
Wish I had the money I had invested over the years! We could use it right now!
