How to AVOID backing up?

So, I've had this laptop less than two months, and it crashed. I was comforted knowing that I wouldn't lose anything important related to my logos. The backup program I was using to keep the rest of my stuff turned out to have been a bad investment...it didn't work, and I lost everything else.

Now I am in the process of redesigning my back up process to avoid this...I turned to a trusted off-site back up service. However, it is backing up EVERYTHING...including everything, all resources etc., in logos! I don't really need it to back up the logos stuff.

Is there any way to EXCLUDE the logos stuff from being backed up?

Probably, but you'll have to ask your "trusted off-site back up service" about how. I only know how to do it with Time Machine on Mac.

Btw, I've used Macs for 19 years. Never had a hardware problem. Never taken a computer to be serviced. Never had a virus.

I think you need to direct your query to the "trusted off-site back up service" web site. They should permit exclusions and state how to do it.

This is one of the negative side effects of Logos' ***VERY POOR DECISION*** (usually don't shout like this, but it needs said again) to make the default installation location of Logos 4 under the user's folder. That location is earmarked for documents and files that are associated with a specific user - the normal work-product of a user working on the PC - *not* programs or files associated with a program's installation. Based on the intended use of that location, backup programs consider that one of the primary locations that should be included in a backup.

Having said that, there should be a way in your backup program to exclude the Logos folder. Since I didn't install Logos in its default location, I can't say for sure exactly where it is. I'm pretty sure the wiki will have its default location.

1) Find out from your backup software tech support (or user forum) how to exclude a particular folder.

2) Then find out where Logos is installed on your machine. It will depend on which version of Windows you're running (assuming you're using the Windows version). The easiest way to find it is to right click on the Logos icon on the Start menu and choose "Open File Location" from the right-click menu. If you're using Windows Vista, as I am, this will take you to a folder such as C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Local\Logos4. I think it's the same for Windows 7. For Windows XP it will be C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4.

3) Once you find out where Logos is installed, just exclude that folder from your backup using the method you discovered in step 1.

That was the help I needed. I already knew how the backup wanted me to exclude it, but I didn't know what to exclude. I'll be changing my settings for backup accordingly!
