Copying or Moving Note Files or Entries

I have a large note file in which I would like to remove a lot of note entries. But I don't want to delete them, but put them in another note file. I tried two approaches to no avail.

I tried to find a way to duplicate the note file and then delete the unwanted entries, but I did not discover a way to duplicate a note file.
Then I looked for a way to MOVE note file entries to a new, blank note file. But again I dd not discover how to do this.

Are either of these possible, or is there another way, or do I have to recreate each note entry again in a new note file?

Some of this has been asked before here in the forum. There is no single method for copying a note file. But a work-around is shown below.

Be very careful when performing this operation, so that you do not loose anything. It requires that you pay close attention.
If the images are too small, click on the image and it will open to full size in a new browser tab/window.

1) Open your Note file (i suggest into a floating window or blank Layout).

2) Open a new Note file where you want to copy/move your notes to.
[Click on File and on the left side of the drop down menu click on Notes, if using a floating window, you will need to drag your new Note file to it]
(now you have both Note files visible and side by side)

3) Click on Compact as this will make it easier to see individual notes.

4) Move your mouse to the left side of a note that you want to move/copy to the new Note file.
You will see a blue bar appear. Click and drag the note....

5) ... and drop it into your New Note file.

6) Now you have moved your note from the original Note file to the New Note file.
Notice that it is missing from your original Note file and it is showing in your New Note file.

7) Now while still in your New Note file, if you only want a copy of the note that you just moved.
Then on your keyboard press Ctrl Z.

8) Notice that your note reappears in your original Note file and that it is still present in the New Note file.

9) Repeat steps 4-7 for each note that you want to move/copy.

10) Don't forget to name your New Note file!!!

This probably has to do with the difference on how Logos constructs them. Notes are probably rich text entries for each note. While clippings are more complex (links to the original resource, bibliography, attached note, etc). So i have found no way to copy a clipping. Although you can drag a clipping to another clipping, but the Ctrl Z trick doesn't work and it is removed from the original clipping file.

Has anyone tried holding down the "ctrl", "alt", and/or "shift" keys during a clipping drag to see if it impacts whether the result is a copy or a move?

I just got home and tried it. Worked great! I guess you CAN move note entries, just need to know how. It's all in the "little blue line"

It reminds me how much I miss having a really good User's Guide where you can look things up rather than have to ask questions on the forum (that usually have already been covered before). Since I don't spend time at the forum regularly (and my search on the wiki and forum did not help me find what I was looking for) I asked.
