Very Disappointed in Logos 4

I recently bought Logos 4 for Mac and tried downloading the program. On several occasions my download was not able to finish. When I re-opened Logos 4 the downloads would not start where it left off; instead, it started again, but on all tries after the initial download attempt, the program said that it was 0% of 500GB (YES THAT IS RIGHT! 500GB!!!).
I expect more from software that costs nearly $1,000.

And you got all that for under $1,000? [8-|] (Sorry, I couldn't resist. I do not intend to make light of your problem.)
My entire library of 3,000+ resources was only 13GB (If memory serves, which is may not).

Did you allow the computer to sleep during the download? I am not sure, but I believe that creates problems with the download.
Your best bet is to call Tech Support this morning. I believe they open around 7am PST.

Welcome to posting in the forum. Sorry this had to be the cause of it. And I want to let you know my first download attempt with Loos 4 I had the same thin happen to me. The problem was just as Jack says: My computer was going to bed half-hour after I was. [|-)] After someone told me to turn off "hibernate' everything went fine with the download. Then came what they call "indexing." That begins after the download was successful and it does take some time.
One thing I was happy about was the fact it picked up where it left off if the download was interrupted.
I hope that is the issue you are dealing with. I run Logos 4 under Windows 7 on a PC. Jack (the funny guy you just met) is one who runs it on Mac.

I have a friend who bought a L4 Mac Scholar's bundle and he is so dissatisfied he virtually never uses it. His main complaint, I believe, pertains to weak notes capability. He sees what I do in L3, wishes he could replicate that in his program and can't. To hear him, he can't do much of anything. I don't know what Mac is capable of doing, being a PC user. I did warn him that my L3 notes capability is absent in L4, but he expected that he would be able to at least approach it. Unfortunately, he can't...or he is convinced he can't. Too bad. Certainly makes me reconsider recommending Logos to anyone else who is going to be stuck with L4 only.
I keep suggesting that he download the L3 core for Mac. Is this available? Of course, I'm not sure if the L3 for Mac can do what my L3 can do either...[:S]

Libronix for Mac was only at version 1.2.2 It never did equal L3WIN. L4MAC should have many more capabilities than L1MAC ever did. Of course since I only eat apples instead of playing with them, I can't be certain.David Paul said:I keep suggesting that he download the L3 core for Mac. Is this available? The closest equivalent to L3 for Mac is Libronix for Mac 1.2.2. It works OK to look at resources, but that's about it. No notes functionality whatsoever.
L4 is significantly improved over Libronix 1.2.2. Many features from L4 Win are included, although some are incomplete. The goal is to get feature parity and great strides have been made. I find the notes feature to be quite usable and with a few minor tweaks should be a great asset.
Regarding the original poster's problem, if you purchased the DVD, try installing the software from that and then download the resources only.

It would be helpful to know what he is trying to do. Perhaps post it in a new thread and see if anyone can offer suggestions?

I called tech support today. There seems to be a problem with the downloader. We tried to reset it, but after so many attempts at downloading the program I gave up. I asked them to just send me a CD in the mail.
I am excited to be able to use the software. I hope it can live up to what it claims to be able to do. If it does, I will be in scriptural bliss.

I was told that the Logos 4 CD comes with the Mac and Windows version. I'll try both of them and see if there is any difference. I know the Mac version is mission some features according the Logos website.

Current stable Logos 4 .2 PC version has more features than Logos 4.0b Mac. However, Logos 4.2a Beta 1 (both platforms) shows Mac version nearing PC feature parity - albeit Mac version bit more buggy. Logos development is on a mission to reach feature parity.

As David Paul mentioned earlier, the Notes feature in L4 Mac is less than ideal. It is usable, but only with patience. As KS4J mentioned, the Mac Dev Team is working feverishly working to reach feature parity with L4 Win. They are not there yet, but they are making great progress.

Funny? I don't call that funny. Intelligent is the word that comes to mind. [8-|]

Kidding aside. Congratulations on your choices (Mac & Logos). If you need assistance—or have questions—do not hesitate to post on this forum. No matter what time you post, someone somewhere in the world will be eager to respond. They may even be Windows users, but they are still good people, just handicapped.

Jeremy and all.....
Everyday and in everyway, we're getting better and better.
In spite of the hiccups along the way, and there have been several, I am consistently impressed with the responses I receive from folks in the forum and from the Development Team as well.
Good things come to those who wait.
Ah, come scriptural bliss and don't delay.

Come on brother. Anyone would be disappointed if that was their first experience with the software. $1,000 bucks is a lot of money to many of us, especially if the product didn't work. Your comments were neither helpful nor kind.
It is not our responsibility to react like anyone who has a problem with the software has insulted our grandchild, for goodness sakes.
We know Logos is great because we have used it long enough to reap the tremendous benefits. New users need encouragement. This is a great product. Give it another chance. The tech support is great, and they will do whatever it takes to fix it.

Hello Carl. Welcome to posting in the forums.
I know you were just suggesting we consider all possibilities when expressing our unhappiness over performance issues. There are often many factors that cause us to have differing results. I think Jeremy was probably having a hibernation issue. Tech Support said it is a downloader problem and sent an install DVD. Hopefully everything will soon be solved and Jeremy will join the ranks of happy users.
Michael makes a good point here. What Jeremy needs is help getting what he paid for (and what most others are enjoying without the hassles he is experiencing.) What may be obvious to others does not really matter when I have forked over a thousand bucks and don't have anything to show for it. (That is when the panic sets in and I start getting a little upset.)

Hey Jeremy,
Just wanted to offer you some encouragement. When I started with Libronix 3 I had some terrible problems installing it on a weak PC. However, when it finally was installed and I had a small sense on how to use the product it was AMAZING! I have since moved to L4 win and have it on my iPhone. I am getting ready to upgrade to Mac in the next few weeks (Sorry windoze users, it is an upgrade [;)] ). Every upgrade and transition had its quirks but I must say again it is AMAZING!
When you have your copy working make sure you go through the tutorials online they are a tremendous help. Use the forums to see how others are working with their copies. The more you learn about this software the greater help it becomes. I have given away every other Bible software I owned (those whose license said I could do that) and have found that Logos 4 takes 14 hours off my old study time each week. I have learned more about the Bible in the last two years using this software than the previous 10.
Trust me Jeremy, you will be happy with the software once it is installed and you learn how to use it. Did I say it was AMAZING!?
Technical support will do whatever it takes to make you happy and most of the guys on the forums will help you through whatever problems you have. I am glad you chose the best Bible Study software on the market.
Thanks,
Doug0 -
I just wanted to take a moment to update all of you. After a call to technical support, were able to fix the problem. It looks like there is a small bug that can occur for Mac users when they are downloading the software. I was finally able to get the L4 fully downloaded and running.
I am now VERY happy with my purchase. Thanks to everyone for their comments.

I like the software but the Mac version does not have the handout feature. I would like to use this feature for bible study groups. Fortunately, I have the Windows version that I can run in Bootcamp; however, this is not the ideal solution because I am a Mac user.

The handouts function is being redesigned, which is why it hasn't been implemented on the Mac yet, but Mac will get it eventually, and hopefully it will be better than before.
