When text is highlighted using any markup, normally re-selecting the text and clicking "Erase" clears the markup. This does not seem to work now. The Ctrl+Shft+K does work however...
Actually it seems that this is particular to "floating" windows...
I'm not able to reproduce this with either a floating or docked panel. Does right-clicking the selected text, choosing Selection and "Remove highlighting" work? That method, or using Ctrl+Shift+K, would be easier with a floating window.
This seems to work now with the latest beta. I did not have the "Remove highlighting" option previously.

BTW, Is there an "Always on Top" option for floating windows? Could you suggest one to the development team?
I agree...this would be a good thing...to be able to pin windows to the top...
But in the mean time...(keep this quiet) Deskpins is a good workaround, it's a freeware utility that works to do the same thing..
