Accordance Bible Software

I asked this about a month ago (I think) on the newsgroup, but maybe the forum has reached others.

I am considering getting the Accordance Bible Software. They have a lot of Dead Sea Scrolls resources currently not available in Logos.

I would welcome any comments from those who use Accordance.

I don't have Accordance since, if someone were to give a MAC to me, I would sell it or give it to my worst enemy. You might want to check out

I tried it before. I did not like it. did not see the value in having yet one more computer program to learn. Did not think the resources were worth the extra drive space or energy.

I too am a Logos user, literally every day. I don't think I would qualify as "rabid", but I am definitely sold on Logos.

I only ask this question because there are some resources Accordance has that I would prefer to get through Logos, but are not available.

I guess you could like several of us do....use every available product. I use WORDsearch almost as much as I do Logos because they have some resources that aren't currently available in Logos and Logos has some resources that aren't currently available in WS. I even use e-Sword once in a while for the same reasons...

I know that its not an immediate solution but you may want to consider suggesting those resources to Logos. You can send an email to suggest@logos.com, they read the emails every day and it helps when they decide what resources to add.

You could do what I do. I use both Logos (via VMWare Fusion) and Accordance daily. the introductory package for Accordance is not that expensive. Now, I will follow my own advice and remember that this is a Logos forum.

I've used LOGOS for several years now and found it to be a little clunky for my tastes. Even worse was when I switched to the MACBOOK PRO and used it under VMWare Fusion, then the MAC Logos Engine. It just never helped me do the research I needed for sermon preparation and bBible studies.

I recently purchased Accordance and initially didn't like it at all. I thought it was a lightweight program that also didn't fit what I was looking for. But over the past month I have given Accordance a second look and now use it exclusively for sermon prep, bible study, and general bible research. I have not even opened LOGOS this past month as I am able to do everything in Accordance easily and quickly.

If you are a MAC user then Accordance is the way to go IMHO. Also you might try Mellel as your word processor if you are needing Greek and Hebrew text to show up properly with all the correct accent marks.

Since I DON'T use Accordance you can disregard everything I said in this reply. I mainly use Logos and sometimes Bibleworks, Wordsearch, Quickverse and BibleOne. I have most other PC based Bible software made in the last 30 years.

I will not address the platform issues of which is better PC or Mac but when you compare the content available for Accordance -vs- Logos I think it is clear you get a lot more bang-for-the-buck going with Logos. You have to get a second mortgage to bring Accordance up to par with Scholar Gold. Especially if you are focusing on original language studies. There was once a day when Bibleworks was the obvious choice but Logos has grown to offer most everything any other Bible software company has to offer. The fact everything is linked in my ever-growing library makes the benefits of Logos grow exponentially! It just keeps getting better...and better...and better.

Yes, one of the most impressive things that I heard Bob respond to when Logos was compared to another product was that they were not interested in trying to do what that other product does per say. In other words, he had a vision for Bible software and also appreciated that others had their visions and that their visions made another option for users to pursue.

Logos is amazing, particularly in its resources. I so hope we can see the day when Zondervan finally licenses some of its stuff for Libronix.

When talking about the Mac software (reader/engine), I hope that Logos does some things to soup up the User interface. I have said this elsewhere in another thread that I think that the Accordance use of a workspace and also their use of tabs is a concept that I hope in some sort of iteration, shows up in Logo's Mac software. The current window management system gets very cluttered when you have over Logos resource six windows open, along with a word processor, a web browser, note taking software, etc. When you use Expose all these windows get intermingled and it can become very confusing. Some have suggested using Mac spaces, which does help a bit, but I think most users won't use spaces and even if they do, they are probably like me in that I want all of my programmes that I am using in my research all together in the same space. Of course this is an issue of preference, but still I think that there has got to be some improvements that can be made.

I started using Logos in 1994 and have several thousand titles in my library. I switched to a Mac in 2005 and Logos got left behind (too slow in Parallels- now have the latest Logos for Mac version), so I became an Accordance user for the past several years. I have to say that I agree with you if you have to make a choice between the two. Else, if you can afford both as a Mac user, Accordance is much better for practical down and dirty sermon/lesson/counseling prep EXCEPT... for sermon prep, I also make use of Logos exegetical guide & passage guide reports. Run them in seperate spaces and it makes for some very quick but thorough research.

I love the sheer volume of library that Logos provides and the recent indexing has helped me to come back to a PC while the Logos 4 for MAC is in development.. I have to say though the the Accordance Bible interface is quick clean and useful. Both programs have their strengths. Logos 4 Scholars Platinum and Accordance 8.4 user. Depends on your need, but if you are a MAC user and want speed and Value. Accordance is the way to go. On the PC Side Logos is great for library. For Value and pure language work Bibleworks may be the way to go. All depends on your budget. If you have not invested in any Logos with you be the way to go due to it's cross platform development.

Mark, In the past this was true but lately Logos has added SO MUCH functionality to the language study department that you can accomplish the same depth of study with currently available Logos resources as the other two programs. I had lamented that I purchased HALOT/BDAG in BW7 instead of Logos format. But since I got the Platinum upgrade that includes these I literally can't imagine anything BW can do that Logos can not. (I will readily confess I am not at all a Hebrew scholar.)

If you have not invested in any Logos

The term "invest" is quite appropriate. Every time you add a resource it enhances the study experience exponentially. You can jump from commentary to word study to theological journals all within one program. That is why I purchased the Charles Spurgeon Collection (86 Vols.) http://www.logos.com/products/details/4793 & the B. B. Warfield Collection (20 Vols.) http://www.logos.com/products/details/4200 even though I had both in other formats. I find the linking and search capabilities of Logos worth it. And if you get them while they are in Pre-Pub it is truly an investment that increases in value!

As far as the Mac thing....You have my sympathy. [:'(]
