Another "Christmas 2010 Sale" question

Today's blog (Dec 16, 2010) has this disclaimer:

"*Not every single title is available on its own. For the titles in the Christmas 2010 Master Collection that are not available individually, we have discounted the the collections they normally appear in by 50%!"

Is there a way we can figure out which single titles aren't available on their own and thus have their collections discounted at 50% off? It's hard enough to manage my library with collections / series. I really don't want to buy single titles that are parts of collections.

well for starters of the 2010 resources offered in the "master" list, there are only 1855 listed under "Christmas Special" on the product page. If there was an easy way to compare and extrapolate the 155 that were not listed we would have our answer.

Leveraging the power of the forums would be good here! Lets find 20 people and assign them 100 resources each to check if they are in collections or not.

I thought by going to the Product page, clicking the collections button about mid-way down the page, and then sorting for Christmas Specials would work... but it only netted 10 collections for a total of 51 books. I assume they are listed in the Master List as a collection already.

I can tell you two: the JPS Classic Midrash Collection and the Summa Theologica.

Other than that, the best thing I can suggest is to sort by Price (highest first): http://www.logos.com/products/search?Specials=Featured&sort=pricehi&pageSize=60. That should get you most of the discounted collections on top. Though some of them might be available individually as well, I haven't checked.

Also, beware of collections in general. I believe every single title in the Studies in the Dead Sea Scrolls collection is 'discounted 50%'. Yet, if you buy them all, you still end up paying about $536,50, when you could buy the collection any day for $219,95. Same with the Church Origins Collection, and several others. Unless you are absolutely sure you only want one or two books in a collection, always check the collection price.

I had done quite a bit of checking in this manner until I was overwhelmed and figured out a resverse cross-checking works much better.

I start out with the Master Collection arranged alphabetically (cut & paste to notepad or spreadsheet)
I determine what collection(s) the title is included in, if any. (This is where spreadsheet method is better.)
I create a list of collections with the content of each collection represented in whatever the completeness.
As I continue top-to-bottom through the alphabetized Master Collection, I remove it from the Master list and the Collections list.
Once a collection has been completely emptied of it's titles, I move the Collection to the top of my Master list along with the Logos sales price.
Any titles that are not included in the Christmas 2010 Master Collection go in a "missing titles" list (or my shopping basket if the title is available for the 50% off sale price.)

My goal is to have a Master list with complete/nearly complete collections listed at the top. I then can compare and decide if the savings are enough to go for it now. Guess what I have already determined,,,,,[:-*]......The titles I was going to eventually purchase more far surpass the purchase price.

Notes:

Some titles can not be purchased stand-alone
This is a "Sale." Don't be surprised when the prices go back up. (If they didn't, it would not be much of a sale, would it?)
If we like what we are seeing this month, participate in these events. We want Logos to learn there is still profitability in bigger sales at lower prices.

This is helpful, Matthew, but I do need a clarification. Is the phrase "Master Collection" (as in point 1) synonymous with "Christmas 2010 Master Collection" (as in point 6)? Or by "master collection" do you mean "every Logos resource"?
