ftp update problems?

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the ftp update site? I ran the script and it says there are 208MB of updates available but it keeps timing out downloading them. I tried accessing the ftp site manually and downloading them but it times out when I try to download a file. I've been trying for a week with no success.

Tom, I haven't been trying recently, but have had this problem before. It is usually traced back to a single resource that is the problem.

If you run the update script again, try unchecking half the resources before you give it the go-ahead. If it works the problem is in the second half. If it doesn't, the problem is in your batch. Of course there could be problems both places, but taking a chunk at a time rather than all might get you all but one or two of them. If you find the bad resource(s) post that and maybe Logos will see it and fix it.

    Tom,

Are you getting any error codes when the update times out? If so, what is the error code? If it is error code 7, this is one of the most common errors that occurs when updating Libronix. This normally occurs when accessing the internet using a wireless connection. If the Update will not run, causes Error Code 7, or does not progress past
0%, try each step below, reattempting Libronix Update after each step to see if
the problem is resolved before continuing to the next one.

    • Temporarily disable Internet security software, such as firewalls, and
      restart Libronix Update.

      • Some firewall software needs to be enabled, but configured to allow Libronix
Update access to the Internet. The method to configure what is often referred to
as 'program control' varies depending on the firewall manufacturer.

      • The two items to permit access to are: Libronix Digital Library
        System
        (C:\Program Files\Libronix
        DLS\System\LDLS.exe)
        and Libronix Update(C:\Program Files\Libronix DLS\System\Update.exe)
        .

    • Delete temporary Internet files:

      • Internet Explorer 6 -- click on Start |
Control Panel | Internet Options (or open IE 6
and go to Tools | Internet Options). On the
General tab, under Temporary Internet Files,
click on the Delete Files button, check the Delete all
        offline content
box, and click OK. When complete,
        click OK to exit.

      • Internet Explorer 7 -- click on Start |
        Control Panel | Internet Options
(or open IE 7 and go to Tools
        | Internet Options
). On the General tab, under
Browsing history, click on Delete, then click
on Delete files (Temporary Internet Files), and click
Yes. Click Close and OK to exit.

      • Internet Explorer 8 -- click on Start
        | Control Panel | Internet Options

(or open IE 8 and go to Tools | Internet Options). On the General
tab, under Browsing history, click on Delete. Checkmark only
“Temporary Internet Files” and then click on Delete. Click OK to exit.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, make note of what bookfile it was that is mentioned when you see the error code 7 screen & try to download it directly from our ftp site here.

If any of the steps above listed do not work, give our Customer Support team a call at 800-875-6467 Monday-Friday from 6am-5pm Pacific Time.

I appreciate your help but it doesn't matter whether I'm using wireless or a cord- it still times out. If I use the update script it gives error code 7 but each time it is a different resource. It can progress quite a ways before it quits so I'm not sure what's up with that. I tried to access the ftp site directly but it timed out with the first file I tried to download. I'm going to try using the update script on a few files at a time- rather unfortunate as there are currently 268MB of downloads waiting. I'll let you know how that goes but so far it is working in small chunks.

Good news - I was able to download everything. There was a problem with The Lexham R-I Septuagint but I was finally able to download it from the ftp site (It took almost 2 hours for the 68MB file though).

There is one remaining problem that reminds me of the issue with Galaxie book files that happened before. Two files are still showing in need of update even after they are updated:

    Master's Seminary Journal Volume 3
    Westminster Theological Journal Volume 67

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Tom,

I have passed the information regarding the resources that said they still needed to be downloaded after you downloaded them onto the department that looks into this.

    Thank you for the information!

    Tom,

I heard back from the department that tests the books and they made sure that everything is working successfully with the Master's Seminary Journal Volume 3 and Westminster Theological Journal Volume 67 resources that you mentioned. If youw anted to attempt the download again, these resources should no longer be looping when you try to download them.

Deborah ... there really seems to be a problem that systemical to the ftp downloading process. A few days back I bought some volumes ... I used the Logos site button to download to L3 and no problems. Then it ran the script to check for resource updates, for which there were a bunch. I check them all and then 'as usual' it got stuck (in this case the two SESB greek volumes and a couple of others; each time requiring a complete re-start). Eventually I got a clean download in the InBound directory but then it didn't move them into the Resources directory (but erased them out of the InBound directory). I've no interest in one-by-one downloading and have pretty much concluded the system is pretty much broke (especially since the script demands a complete re-start when it gets stuck).

Also in a previous message you indicated the Gottingen update in Dec would be on FTP but the FTP file dates are still late November?

    Denise,

From what you are describing, the best thing to do would be to call our Customer Support team as they can look into this more in depth for you. They are available Monday-Friday from 6m-5pm Pacific Time and can be reached at 800-875-6467.

Kind of doubt C/S re-writes update scripts or checks previous statements on Gottingen files. But hope you have a good new year anyway. You and everyone else there really work hard.

While they don't rewrite the scripts, they can find out which resources are getting stuck when trying download and pass that information onto the necessary department.

    Happy New Year!
