To usese visual markups in reading view.

I like to highlight as I read, but if I am reading in Reading View (F11), I need to exit into the regular view and open up the highlighting and highlight, and then if I want to return to reading view, hit F11 until there is something else worth highlighting. If I use notes it is the same thing, because I have to go to the notes window as part of that feature.

I realize that this might be a major coding issue, so perhaps it isn't possible, but I think even a limited highlighting option as part of the right click menu would be helpful, and well, less clunky. Or maybe there is an easy way to do this that I haven't figured out yet.

James, this can already be done but not in reading view.

Open the resource you want to read in a floating panel (CTRL-F11).

Open the highlighter panel then drag it to another pane where is if freed from the LHS docking location. Now open that in another floating window.

Minimize L4 so you can see both floating panels.

Drag the tab of the highlighter panel to the floating panel where your reading text is and drop it there.

Now go to the panel which now has both the reading resource and the highlighter panel in it. If they are not side by side in two panes, drag one of the small tabs until that occurs, then resize the panes to suit you.

Maximize the panel to full screen if you want.

Be sure to make the reading resource your selected pane then hit CTRL-SHIFT-P to go into paged view creating columns in the resource.

This takes a lot longer to describe than to do. Here is an example of the finished product::

You could do the same thing to add a notes panel.

I don't know if you are aware of it or not, but you can assign shortcut keys to your favorite highlight styles by right clicking on the style and choosing which key you want, i.e. R for red B for blue etc. Then when you are in reading view just select the text to be highlighted and hit that key.

Thanks guys, both good replies. A shortcut should do the trick and I will use it, but putting things into floating panels is a nifty workaround. Thanks for your help!

Interestingly enough, paged view is inaccessible with the keyboard commands on my laptop because that shortcut is already assigned by my computer manufacturer to check the health of my battery. I have to open up paged view the old fashioned way: in the drop-down menu.
