I bought it too hastily - mea culpa

I have just got the Original Language Logos 4 and enlarged my MacBook RAM to 4 GB so that I might use Logos. My MacBook is two years old and runs on Snow Leopard. Logos makes it so noisy that I had to erase it and went back to the sweet silent Accordance 6.4 I already had in the past. I have been talked into Logos by a friend who mainly uses it on the PC but also on a Mac.

I guess that the opening of Logos to Mac is secondary and it may work better on Windows. Now that I have paid 430 dollars (I got the CD), I will wait till my next machine in one year and half from now to see if this monney was thrown out the window or a valid investment.

No resentment… I should have checked a bit more the very recent and unable to work on Mac more than two years old… Logos 4.

Two quick responses:

When you first install Logos it spends several hours indexing. This uses a lot of CPU/HDD power, will slow your computer down significantly, and could well appear noisy. Are you sure this indexing finished?
If you're really not satisfied, Logos will give you your money back.

Like Mark the two phrase 'I have just got' and 'makes it so noisy' lead me to wonder if the indexing process is complete?

On initial install the indexing uses almost every resource the computer has to get the job done - many allow this process to run overnight as it can take many hours.

I am running the latest stable version of L4 Mac (SR-2) and occasionally the fans will kick in on my 2 gig, 3 year old Mac Book. Admittedly I am a light user and try to minimise the scrolling delays by not linking many pages together.

I wonder if you have given L4 a fair chance before consigning it to the trash bin?

Welcome to the forums. Logos 4 Mac takes a considerable time to index the first time.

Installing it in the evening and then allowing it to index overnight is a good idea

And remembering to ensure that your computer does not sleep/standby is important also. (I use a little app called Caffeine to keep mine awake. If you don't have it you can get it at this link; it's free. http://caffeine.en.softonic.com/mac)

Also, since you installed from a disk, Logos may well update online as well.

Thereafter things are much faster.

Speaking as someone who uses original languages a lot, for academic work, I find Logos extremely useful, particularly the Lexham Discourse series. I find that I can do everything on Logos 4 Mac that I want to now. The Clippings tool is particularly helpful.

Have a look at the official Logos instructional videos also In particular those here by Mark Barnes are more detailed. They will get you up to speed far more quickly than you might otherwise.
