Probably the worst program ever Logos 4

I bought the new Logos 4, tried everything to get it to work. I gave up and went back to my old Libronix and I am now happy. If you do Bible study you dont need a program to frustrate you.

    Hi Liep

Sorry to hear that you had problems with L4.

Many of us found it a fairly steep learning curve but are now finding it incredibly valuable and helpful.

If you were prepared to share specific issues you were having in using it I am sure there are people here who would be willing to help you sort them out.

    Liep,

If you would like to sort out what  issues you had specifically, we are willing to help.

Can you be more specific than "I tried everything to make it work"?

    What didn't it do?

What are you specifically referring to?

Why do I need to download my books from the server which is 6.02GB if i have all the books on DVD

Dear Liep, I shared your frustration in the beginning as well. But I watched the video tutorials that Logos (and others) share on-line.  There WAS a pretty steep learning curve, but in time I was able to really study and make Logos 4 work for me. Even though I still have Logos 3, I don't use it any more. L4 just does so much more!  I would like to encourage you to hang-in-there in learning Logos 4 (even while you continue to use Logos 3).  There are many folks on this forum who can help you with any frustrations you might have.  I pray God's blessing on you as you continue to dig deep into the word and serve our Lord.

    Hi Liep

If you installed Logos 4 onto the PC that had Logos 3 installed it should have copied over the resources without downloading.

You can also avoid the download using the scan command, if your DVD drive is D: you just type in scan d: in the prompt area and it will read the books from the DVD.

Note that Logos 4 will still need to download any books that have been updated since your DVD was pressed. A lot of work has been done on the tagging of resources by Logos so there may be a large number of resources to update.

I think it is reasonably fair to say that the installation and initial indexing process frustrates most users but once you are up and running Logos 4 is a good product to use for Bible Study.

    God Bless

Liep, I wondered what silly mistake I'd made paying to move over to Logos 4 just over a year ago.  I hated it at first.  Now I love it and only use Libronix if I'm travelling and taking my old laptop which is not powerful enough to run L4.  I found it worth sticking with it.  I use it every day.

You caN GET a refund within a month if you really can't get on with it.  But I'd advise you to give it a chance and see  if you feel differently after 2 or 3 weeks.  And lots of help on the forums.  I've sometimes had help within minutes.  Since discovering the helpful friends on the forums, I've only contacted customer support once for a recurring problem,  for which my patient MVP adviser on the forum suggested I contact CS if the problem recurred.

    Hi Liep,

I've had L4 for about 6 months, and at times had to fight the urge to return to the competitor I left for Logos. The competitor was quite capable, and I had a reasonable library there as well. And what's worse... L4 can be slow and buggy. But the deeper I learn Logos, often through watching videos, particularly those of Mark Barnes, I have learned a great deal. During this "learning time", I have continually compared Logos with my previous competitor, and I realized that it didn't hold a candle to Logos.

I guess my mark for deciding a hundred percent for Logos was during bible study with fellow believers. I used to use the competitor because I was much faster and competent with it, but now I can't imagine why as I have learned Logos more deeply.

Just remember this forum and customer service.

    Dear Steven

Thanx for your encouragement, but I have decided to go back to Libronix, and deleted L4, I just waisted some money.

    Liep -

As with others, I encourage you to stay with it. It took me about 2 weeks.

However, if this is your final decision, you have not lost any money. Logos will give you a refund, as Nicky stated.

    Dear Liep,

I wish you well. I still have Libronix on my desk-top. I just never use it. I have it as a back-up system just in case.  Blessings to you in your study of God's word and in your service to our Lord.

    Sincerely, Steven

Liep, You haven't waisted any money. Logos engine is free. If you paid, you paid for the resources. Even if you go back to the Libronix you can download most of your new resources to the Libronix.

Here is some wiki info how to do that:  http://wiki.logos.com/LE_Resources_for_Logos_3

    Hi Liep,

I too had buyer's remorse after the first frustrating week! As a pastor, I do not have alot of disposable income OR time. But L4 is THE best investment for ministry I have yet to make. Before you throw in the towell, can I make a couple suggestions? For me, I had to go cold turkey! I acted as if my LIbronix3 wasn't there any more. I then watched and rewatched the videos, they are seminal, but very helpful. Focus on creating "collections" for searching and "layouts" to personalize your studying. Initially rely on the "passage guide" as it is resembles the format you are used to in Libronix3. My encouragement is this, if I can use L4, ANYBODY can!

I didn't even have access to the videos (very slow ISP), but within a few days I was finding my way around L4.  And loving being able to have lots of commentaries and Bibles open at the same time.  I have now gained lots of experience using computers, gained through trial and error, but no way am I a computer nerd.  And the people on the forums are tremendously helpful  [:D]

Liep--if you had been trained to fly a small Piper airplane, then sit in the cockpit of a Phantom Jet Fighter would you look at all the controls and say "This is the worst plane ever?"  Perhaps a learning curve when upgrading really is a reasonable expectation?
