Logos4 on my HP Mini Netbook

Well, a store near me was selling off a whole bunch of HP Mini netbooks cheap on December 26th. A "Boxing Day" sale.

They were selling one model with Windows XP for NZ$250 after cash-back refund (about US$175), but had all sold out by the time I arrived.

I got the one with Windows 7 Starter, 1 GB ram, for NZ$350 (about US$250).

Anyway, with only 1 GB ram, and Nortons 360 anti-virus etc, it still runs Logos4 just fine. OK, so it took maybe 24 hours to reindex over 2000 resources, but it did finish in due course.

Its not fast, and it DOES NOT meet the "2 GB RAM" specs for Logos4 , but for me, it goes just fine.

A search for "gold NEAR god" took 12 seconds to find 7400 hits in 2400 articles in 750 resources. Picking one at random, took maybe 2-3 secs to open to the hit.

Why am I telling this tale? Well, for anyone with an old PC that can't run Logos4 at all, or well enough, I expect you dont need a very expensive new one to do the job.

My task for 2011 is to spend more time reading in Logos4 than on the Logos4 forums.

I too run Logos almost daily on a netbook. This offers extreme portability and comfort for reading purposes. Doing much more than just reading with maybe a search or report or two will become a pain (speed and small screen). Indexing can take >24 hours. But besides that, the daily use of Logos on a netbook is perfectly acceptable if you are reasonable in your performance expectations

I have been running L4 on a Netbook for almost a year. It is not as fast as my Laptop but it is acceptable for what I use the netbook for. As Jacob said the netbook provides a portability that my laptop simply does nto provide. It is a fine option for reading or simple tasks. It does get bogged down when I run some searches or try to have a lot open at the same time; but that is expected.

I ran Logos on a little ASUS single core with 2 gigs of ram, it was slower than I liked for long term bible study, but like the others said it was great for reading or even doing quick word studies and such. I used it for going to fellowship meetings and it was very useful.

One night I set it on the roof of my car and drove off, at 50 mph if flew off my roof and landed on the center of the road, where a big 4 wheel drive ran over it! I still miss that computer! But now I have a ASUS 13 inch duo core with 4 gigs of ram, it is still very light and easy to haul around, but Logos 4 runs fast on it, so I am very happy with the slightly bigger computer, and I use it for all my bible study needs, it is more than fast enough to handle any thing I throw at it with no waiting. I have over 2500 resources in the program.

I have been running Logos 4 on an Asus Netbook for over a year with the 2 gig of RAM. I can't say that I notice much difference between the one and two GB or maybe it has just been that long since I've upgraded. One thing for sure, I would rather read on my netbook than my iphone. The iphone is okay for reading short bits but whole books are another matter. I also use my full laptop for doing any Bible study with Logos. As with everyone else, indexing on the netbook usally implies a time committment.

Great news that L4 will work on a computer below the specifications! I stopped thinking about one that was on offer cheap because4 I thought it would not run L4. Now I may think again!

I heartily agree with L4's usefulness on a netbook. For the simple stuff, and especially using the "reading view," it's great.

I have a single-core MSI brand netbook with an AMD Neo MV-40 at1.6Gh. Through a happy coincidence I was able to upgrade to 4Gb of RAM. I also have an 11.1" screen: a tiny bit bigger than most netbooks.

I'd hate for a netbook to be my only L4 PC, but it's hard to beat at the coffee shop.

I sat thru Morris Proctor's Camp Logos and Camp Logos II with a netbook with 2GB RAM and did just fine (It's not my primary workhorse). Everyone else's resources opened up a little quicker but nothing that fast fingers couldn't compensate for. ...And any changes made in class were sync'd with my desktop when I returned. Awesome!
