For whatever reason, I noticed significant improvement in the time to present results and sluggishness experienced during large results searches after merging resources. Perhaps the display engine has to work twice as hard to display two sets of results? The same search seemed nearly twice as quick to complete. I wasn't looking for this, so I don't have any numbers.
