New way of getting pre-pubs pubbed.

I would really like to see John Gill, Toplady and others make it into the Logos format. I just started a new job after being unemployed for a year and a half and would like to regularly contribute to seeing this come to fruitition. How about starting a Logos pre-pub savings account where a person could regularly contribute to seeing a book or collection being published. I'd like to contribute to making these books available in a starter collection to everyone or at least available period. I think this would be a great 3rd option to what is currently available. What does everyone else think?

Last I heard, Logos is working on something remotely like "gift cards" only online that would enable you or someone else to purchase a $50 credit for example to any resource you wanted.

It sounds like you're asking this to be a bit more targeted towards individual books? I'm not sure I"d be in favor for two reasons.

1. On Logos' side the extra manpower needed to do the accounting and the complexity of the accounting alone would be horrible.

2. What happens if you pre-purchase the credit on a prepub that never goes to press? Like the 5 year old Oxford Latin Dictionary recently discussed?

Michael. you could get a prepaid credit card. and just top it up in the same way with regular ammounts, you will never be able to break your budget.. and if you had an emergency your money is not tied up and inaccessible..

thas my plan for the cominig year anyway.. but congrats on the job, I hope to find one this year too..

I like the suggestion Thomas made here of regularly stocking a PayPal account to pay for future purchases. Then you could go ahead and bid on things in pre-pub, as that is still the best way to register interest so Logos can tell if there are enough people willing to buy. More people would be willing to buy if they were putting away money for it in advance, but I think it would not be Logos's job to hold on to our savings for us. Logos is in the business of creating software; it isn't a bank. I know that many large companies (Montgomery Ward, Sears, etc. come to mind) used to have layaway plans for people to buy big-ticket items, but that involves having a whole finance department. Logos is too small a company to expect them to do that.

Let me clarify. I would like to contribute toward these books being published beyond what my personal cost to obtain them is. I think they are that valuable. How about if Logos posted the production price and then let us pledge what we would be willing to would contribute to it becoming reality. I think putting money in a personal account to that end is a great idea. I would be willing to make regular contributions until they are available. Does that make more sense? Thanks.
