delays in general navigation in logos4

Hello,

In both the PC and mac verison, I've noticed that the program isn't snappy, and even with simple scrolling down a resource like a Bible, it hangs for a second occasionally. Why is that? Is it because of all the resources? I'm fully indexed and I'm just not sure why it's not fast. I've tried hiding resources I never will use (I wish I can just remove them completely)... please help me optimize! thanks!

I saw a related post, but it seems to have gotten off topic.

BTW - I have a 2.8 GHz 6 GHz RAM running SSD. I've done both logos4mac and also logos4PC on VMWARE. I've also tried on 64-bit win7, but still observe a "limit" to the general UI usage speed. I also did the Max Performance for the Graphics. I'm out of ways to speed up my logos experience.

This video is a bit dated as L4 has updated since them, but it goes through some of the ways I optimized the software for my use. It was while I was on L4 Win. L4 Mac will see some real optimization when the next update is released. Also, if you are running Parallels with L4 Mac I have found it to slow things down.

The biggest ways to optimize is the collapse all sections in the various guides and to limit how many resources are linked together.

You have mentioned this before, but I do not see the slow down. Is it RAM dependent? I have 11 GB.

I have a 2008 MBP with 4 gigs so it must be. I have a dual core with one going to the VM as well. You probably have a few more cores..[:)]

I mention this because some people run other bible software with Parallels at the same time and this could be a cause of slow down for them as well as what was mentioned in the above posts.

That must be why mine is not slowing. I have 2 dual cores with one pair allocated to Parallels and 11 GB RAM with only 2 assigned to Parallels.

I too have a MBP but from 2009. It came with 4GB of RAM and a 2.6GB Proc. I run Parallels with Win7 but use Logos 4 on the Mac side. I noticed that Logos was sluggish when Parallels was open, not too bad when Parallels was closed.

I used the built-in Mac program called "Activity Monitor" and kept an eye on the "System Memory" page. The green part of the "pie" shows free RAM. When I had Parallels open, I also typically had Outlook/Mac open as well as Firefox/Mac. I noticed that the sluggishness started to occur when I ran out of free RAM.

You can also open the program called "Terminal" in the Utilities folder. In the terminal window, type the word "top". This will show running processes, RAM usage, and other bits of data. Look for the "Page Ins 0(0) Pageouts" section in the top block of data. Keep an eye on the pageouts. If it ever changes from zero to any number, this means your computer is having to write data to the hard drive and is starved for RAM. This will without a doubt cause most any program to perform sub-par.

When I saw this with my 4GB MBP, I bought another 4GB of RAM for around $200 and now with 8GB of RAM Logos4 performs well. More RAM=Happy Logos4.

Observation: typically little free RAM and page outs increasing happen together - hence can have Activity Monitor show Memory Usage pie as dock icon, when green (free) slice small, can switch to Activity Monitor to check page outs: lots of page outs is good reason to upgrade RAM or MAC (newer model with more RAM).

I hear it has to do a lot with video memory. My computer is the fastest it can be I think.

In any case, what I noticed was disabling font smoothing helped A LOT.

Logos, please make it even more responsive/snappier somehow Thank you!

I agree. It bothers me to point and click on a menu item, for example "File" and then wait for seconds for a response. I use many other programs and do not have this issue with any of them accept Logos. I expect to wait for a search and I am ok with that. But it bothers me to once the search is completed have the rolling beach ball while I try to scroll down the list. To me that seems to be a programming/coding issue?

Curious about search list that has spinning beach ball while scrolling - please share more - would like to try replicating. Screen shot would be helpful.

For several menus (e.g. File), Logos 4 dynamically generates contents to include user items (bit different than many programs with static menus).
