I want to open three windows, all with the same Bible version, with different scriptures in each window. I need to compare the accounts of the same event in three different Gospels. Can't figure out how to do this.

Click on the book icon on the top left and then select as indicated or use the keyboard shortcut as shown.

Wait - I'm getting there (float panel). lightbulbs going on...
Float panel can do it, or just drag the tab into a new panel next to the current panel.
As Chris indicated, click on the tab and move it where you want:
