4.2a Beta 5 Bug and slow drop down menu

1) When I click on the "Tools" dropdown, Collections is always highlighted (see below) even when I hover the mouse over another selection. In this example I hovered over "Text comparison". It goes blue, but "Collections" is still highlighted.

The only way to get "Collections" to not be highlighted is to click on an item in its column. If I click on an item in another column it stays highlighted.

2) The drop-down for the "File" item on the main menu is slow. The other two (Guides and Tools) appear quickly (although I think they should be instantaneous, they still take about 1 second) the File item takes 3-4 seconds each time I move off and back on. As a comparison, the bible drop down for me appears in 1-2 seconds the first time and is instantaneous after that. The main menu should never be as slow as it is. For me it is issues like this that make me feel that the program has a "slow" feel to it.

Clinton are you still indexing? If so that may be affecting the speed of Logos. If you are indexing, try pausing the indexer and see if that makes any difference. I cannot test it, as mine is still indexing. Forgot to index last night.

Using keyboard arrow keys can move highlighting from "Collections" to other items. Concur highlighting does not move with mouse pointer.

Tryy restarting Logos. The first start after installing b5 for me, those menus wouldn't open at all!

Collections is always highlighted for me as well. For what it's worth, I still have 1 install on beta 4, and the same thing exists there so it's not newly introduced to beta 5. I never noticed it ha ha!

Collections under Tools has always done this (being highlighted), i am running 4.2Sr2. If you hit the Tab key the highlight moves to the next column (or major field; e.g. Program settings) and the arrow keys move up/down.

The File menu is slow as you describe, L4 is reading various DBs to find what to populate on the right side of the File menu. It also is checking dates to determine the newest files to populate on the right.

1) Indexing is progressing, but since all the menus are being accessed during indexing one should not be affected any more than the others. The fact that the system is indexing should just show the problem more clearly.

2) The file menu is slower when indexing is not being performed.

To compare with mine and to try to narrow down the problem, do you know approximately how many documents you have listed under File | Open?

Hi,

I have a lot of note files and there are about 180 items in the list. However, the list does not change so I can see that perhaps it take a little longer on the first try, but after that, it should be instant.

I think my older computer (still well above the minimum specs) and my use of notes has pointed out a design/code flaw that shorter lists/newer computers would not see.

Reorganizing the File>Open menu is still being considered, and this can be addressed at the same time.

I hope reorganzing that menu moves beyond the "consideration" stage into the "reality". When you begin to get a lot of user files in the list it becomes cumbersome. Something a folder tree would be wonderful. I know about the work around using favorites, but that has some disadvantages.
