b5 indexing faster?
I just rebuilt the index in the latest beta by issuing a rebuild index command.
The log reports:
2011-01-19 12:53:45.5444 13 Info LibraryIndex Finished indexing resources (in 02:15:28.9118636); writing postings.
but the writing postings part continues for a good four hours after the fact. Indexing may be faster than I remember it, but is this behavior consistent with before? I seem to remember that postings and everything finished up pretty much as soon as the log reported that indexing was finished.

That log line marks the conclusion of the first phase of indexing (indexing resources), and the beginning of the second phase (writing postings). It's been this way for quite some time.
(One reason that this milestone is logged is that the first phase is multithreaded, but the second phase is singlethreaded; when optimising we typically treat those two phases differently.)

When I indexed last night, the reported time remaining was always around 1 hour in the tooltip. But the actual time was at least 5 or 6 hours. :-)

Mine was hovering between 6 and 7 hours when I went to bed last night. Today it's at 77 hours, oops, just went up to 78... Uggh!

Wow. The most time it takes for a full index for me is about 20 minutes.

My indexing takes under 2 hours consistently.
I have 1085 shown resources and a 3 year old lap top....core duo 6 gb ram

Kevin - I have 647 resources showing. I have A LOT of stuff hidden. Lean and mean...
I just did an rebuild index to test this. It reported 20 minutes to start, which it usually does. But it actually took 36 minutes - still not too bad. I was doing other stuff on the computer while it was doing its thing. It really is closer to 20 minutes if I leave it alone.
