Since Bible references in notes don't link automatically yet on Mac:

a) Will already created references be picked up automatically once this is implemented?

b) If I start a note with a full reference, and then add a comment like "but in v 14 it says", will Logos understand that that is v 14 in the same book and chapter, and create the link?

(I'm trying to decide the best strategy: if I have to create links manually, it's faster to do it when I write the note; if not, it's just a waste of time, unless I know I'll be using the link soon.)

They're detected while editing, so they should be detected the next time you edit the note.

No. I don't believe that Windows does that today and we're not going to be implementing a different algorithm for detection. Our algorithms work based on analyzing the note text, they don't begin with the context of reference you're annotating. It's an interesting idea, but consider the following case:

I attach a note to Matthew 3 with the text:

"Compare to Luke 3, which includes more of the passage from Isaiah in v 5 and v 6"

Reading the English, it's obvious that v 5 and v 6 refer to Luke 3. However, your proposal would have them map to verses 5 & 6 from Matthew. Further confounding anything parsing the text would be the red herring of Isaiah, which is also a valid book of the Bible and would further confuse matters. We're trying to do detection while you type and, unfortunately, don't get to use http://www.ibmwatson.com to do the parsing for us;).

I imagine it could just assume that anything like "v 5" is relative to whatever reference immediately preceded it and it would then, at least, be predictable, but I suspect that it would create as many unintentional/incorrect items as it would correct ones, which would get annoying for most people quickly.

So, the second form, where you want to refer to the verse simply using "v 14" without explicitly specifying, you'll need to manually link them either way. For the rest, we should pick up the automatic references the next time you edit the note.
